Shits we judge other climbers for

Because, as Mark said:

C’mon admit it.  Half the real fun in climbing (or life for that matter)  is judging the other guy

So let's go. What do you judge other cliimbers for doing?

I judge climbers when I see them warming up or top roping some 5.9 with brand new 200$ La Sportiva Genius or similar. What, resoled shoes won't do for that?

Music, noise (yelling), littering and general inconsideration of others. I don't care how well they climb or what shoes they wear.

People who climb 5.12 and belay 5.8.

Dumb unsafe stuff that doesn’t make sense.

Last weekend I watched a guy sling the first bolt on a route with a fully extended double-length sling (putting the biner at head height), and then skip the 3rd bolt (definite ground fall), both to “cut down on rope drag”. If only he had brought a longer sling for that 3rd bolt.

I spend so much energy on self-judgment that I have very little left for judging others.

General crag shenanigans, like looking over and asking yourself, "should I say something? They're not in immediate danger but somethings definitely a little fucky". Honestly trying to be conscious of not judging others as much as I've been noticing myself doing it a lot lately.

I judge weirdos who start threads about judging other people as  a way to stroke their ego and address personal insecurities...

I don’t have a different type of shoes for the warmups. :)

But In addition to already-mentioned-in-the-other-thread unnecessary shit hanging on harnesses, I  judge people for wearing fancy downturned shoes that are obviously several sizes too big, because you can see the empty air pockets from 10 feet away, while they are standing in the dirt and belaying their partner in those fancy shoes. First time I saw somebody walking around the crag in clown-sized La Sportiva Solutions, i thought it was a joke

I have also non-judgmentally noticed that there is a direct correlation between stupid shit occurring at the crags, and the number of gym belay tags hanging off the harnesses.

I have to admit, When I’m out sport climbing, and I see another climber with a full rack of only the same matching shortie quickdraws, I get a little judgey about it. It’s a kind of “I know stuff you don’t know” snobbery, which is stupid and unkind on my part. I’m trying to get over it.

Anyone who climbs worse than me is a gumby who should just quit, anyone who climbs harder is a nerd who needs to get a life

I saw a dude at Smith place Screamers on the first two bolts of a sport route once.

I know I shouldn’t but sometimes I judge people who use shirtless photos of themselves looking pensively into the distance as their profile pics...

I'm actually playing chess, but fair enough.

While we're on the shirtless topic - I'm in the northeast & my gym is a baking church for summer, about right temp for fall/spring and the winter is freezing cold. I do judge the bros that year-round climb/train shirtless while warmup up hands with hot paws between climbs. I'm barely exaggerating.

Video recording anything V2 and under gets me pretty judgey. I can't climb hard either, I just know nobody wants to see it on tape.

People record stuff for themselves too.

I actually always climb with a shirt on, but am legit dripping in sweat all the time and would rather it be okay to not wear a shirt and not feel judged for it.

There is a comment back in the thread about having unnecessary stuff on your harness. Some of us are gumby dummys and decide to do a multipitch in the middle of a cragging day and forget everything on the ground (atc, slings, free biners to use at anchors, enough quickdraws, prusik).

Boulderes are not climbers.

Not judging, just stating facts

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
