Hi everyone! You are invited to participate in an anonymous research study about rock climbing and perceptions about your life. This research will be conducted over the internet using an online survey tool. You will be asked some basic demographic information and to respond to several questions about your experience with rock climbing and how you feel about certain aspects of your life. Most people can complete this survey in approximately 10-15 minutes.

It is important for you to understand that this survey is anonymous and neither your name nor any other identifiable information will be recorded.

If you have questions about the research after you are done, you should contact Fiona Robertson, at frobertson@edgewood.edu.

Please click on this link, or cut and paste it into your browser to access the survey:

Thank you!

Hi Fiona,

Any invitation to participate in research and/or informed consent should include the name of the institution where the research protocol recieved irb approval, the name of the primary investigator and their relationship to the institution i.e. doctoral student of blank, and the department under which the protocol was approved, i.e. department of blank. I would be more than willing to fill out your survey if it included more information, but looking at your consent form I am uncertain that this is a real research project approved by your university since it does not contain any of the above information. You also misspelled Institutional Review Board which is a red flag. Please see the link for samples of consent forms. Research is a pain in the ass, but doing it right is important.

Smells a bit like random on-saleable data-collection eh? Questions "after"? Anonymous? Do it right, post a link to your legally reviewed data-privacy policy "before".

Hi Doug, thank you for your input. I understand where you’re coming from and I think it’s important to be vigilant about research. The IRB at my college did approve the study and the consent form itself comes from a template that is provided by the IRB. We generally do not include that kind of information in the form, but maybe we should consider having all studies at my institution include that information to be more clear and thorough. I did misspell institutional and that’s an honest mistake that I will fix, so thank you for pointing it out!
