My son broke a hold on pitch 5 and broke his ankle on resulting fall. I lowered him then we rappelled down to the top of pitch 2. I could not retrieve the ropes. Knot too far from edge. Had to initiate rescue. Two ropes, #4 BD and #2 on pitch 5 for lower left behind. This was Monday 9/21/20. Any assistance appreciated.

I got you. Found your 4 and 2 happy to return, also picked up your alpine draws. Sorry to hear about your son. how is he doing? I left the ropes, not knowing whose they were and what they were being used for.

Joey when did you climb it? Could I just climb the first 2 pitches and rap to get those ropes down? Are they fixed and I could just TR solo them and rap?

I climbed it on Saturday 9/26/20. The ropes are not fixed. There is an anchor built up there using two slung trees if I remember correctly. I do not remember what pitch the ropes were anchored to might have been to the top of pitch 4, just before the chimneys.

It is correct that the ropes are at the top of pitch 4.  It is possible to perhaps ascend the ropes, move the knot over the edge (or extend my slings) to retrieve them on from the top of pitch two.

SAR installed two new bolts on the top of pitch #2 making it possible to rap the route now.   Otherwise, the standard belay is deep onto that ledge, from a tree making rapping the route difficult.

I also did see a rap station on that ledge that descended into the gully climbers left.  Looked like lots of bush whacking that way.

Joey, many thanks for retrieving the gear.  Will be in touch.

Hey Dann, I did Frigid Air 2 days ago and came across your gear before finding this post. As a party of 3 with 2 ropes between us, we decided that carrying out 4 ropes would be too cumbersome. We opted to coil up and leave the worst of the two ropes behind (an older Edelrid Eco Boa, I believe?). DM with a description of the other rope and your address and I’ll get it back to you.

Sorry to hear about your son, wishing him a swift recovery!

PS we recovered your anchor materials as well but it’s with my partner from that day. He’s planning to reach out to you later today.
