Useless gear

I always carry at least one long (240cm tho....) sling in the Canadian Rockies as it can be a long ways for that third anchor piece, but 400cm?!?!  Didn’t even know those were a thing.

I have one 4 meters sling and use it regularly in alpine when the only option to build an anchor it to put it over the whole top of the peak.

Most useless gear for me is the Edelrid Micro Jul, even for my skinny ropes I always reach for my reverso, hate that Micro Jul.

Bolting kits on a bigwall are purchased with the hope to not be used since they're for primarily for retreating in an emergency and secondarily for upgrading anchors if needed (but seldom needed).

When they're needed and unfortunately back home in the bin, at least it'll give one a post to make on the "stupidest thing I've done" thread currently on this forum.

Not disagreeing.

Just not wall climbing.

Well, just because you've chosen to no longer do the aspect of the sport that a piece of gear is made for, it doesn't mean the gear is "useless."

The rack of steel-chain quickdraws I got turned out to be way less practical than I had thought they would be.  While they make me feel a lot safer, the quicklinks are kinda fiddly to open and close and it got hard to keep my harness up around my hips (much less climb with them).

The 40M stick clip I got, though, has really paid off.

The what now? How do you even get it to the crag? Are your triceps friggen ripped from stick clipping the top of so many 5.14's.

In all seriousness where did you get this? Cause I want one...

A 400cm sling. What are you even supposed to do with a sling that big? I bought it to see if I could use it to replace my cord, but even with a 5 piece trad anchor...this thing is still huge.

Ditto. Bought two. Used them once. Five-piece hanging belay, and it was still too long. Besides, it's not very confidence inspiring compared to 7mm cord.

Ouch... That might be a bit harsh.

I just bought few 16 mm nylon slings from Trango and they are great for organizing gear and using as a gear sling. Really affordable too.

Do you mean the search button?

Considering how useful the button would be to the OP, no.

Considering how many responses there are and this isn't the second post but the 4th shows an interest in these posts and new ones not searching old posts.

Crashpad

Obviously you've never been walking around out in the desert with your girl friend and crash pad, and never found the boulder you were looking for. Now, under those circumstances, that is one indispensable piece of equipment.

My point exactly old chord is free and does the same thing - Walmart sells their cams, carabiners micro fracture, and soft goods expire early. Sub par manufacturing practices.
