Any more info? Article just says she was 70 feet off the deck and fell 50 feet while trying to set pro.

Very sad. My condolences go out to family, friends, and loved ones of the victim. It's an unfortunate reminder that it can happen to any one of us, and how important it is to be as careful as we can be.

Sounds like she was pretty experienced but 3 pieces popped. Quite heartbreaking.

I met Lauren in Squamish last summer. She was volunteering with a group of disabled climbers. It's really unfortunate what happened, and my condolences go out to her family and friends who must be devastated, as she was an extremely friendly, likable, and gregarious person.

Any further details on where/what route this happened at? What pieces of pro were used?

The accident happened on Triple Bulges. I followed both pitches a week or so later and both my partner who led the climb and I agreed that there is gear aplenty on both pitches. Someone else I spoke to who led the climb a few weeks prior concurred.

She pulled three pieces at the beginning of P2 and it sounds like a factor-two fall onto the anchor. It's possible she only placed stoppers and they zippered out, but that's just enlightened speculation on my part.

Based on her tick list she was new to trad leading with a mock-lead as recently as July 28th. We may never know exactly what went wrong, but this does suggest the importance of having good mentors when learning to lead on gear.

Cams can blow too.  Best not to speculate.

Damn this is sad. I can only hope that she was without fear the whole time. May we experience her in another life.
