Keep Tahoe Bouldering off Mountain Project

I understand that the Tahoe basin is home to some decent bouldering (not as good as Colorado, but thats a different thread) but I would like to propose we as a community work to keep some of this delicate granite climbing off of the Proj as much as possible. Certain areas have limited access or are on private property. Routes like Hobo at the Saddle Boulders requires high clearance and 4 wheel drive to get to and could put eager new climbers in a compromised driving position.

Furthermore, with how health conscious we're trying to be as a climbing community, I think now is the time to focus on our own outdoor experiences, stay away from crowds and keep a lot of these delicate tahoe bouldering areas in the guidebook and off of this site.

My favorite is when a non local posts up the area after visiting once (this goes for non tahoe also)

Pretty sure someone with a civic would quickly realize that their car couldn’t get to some of the 4x4 areas. And pretty sure rock doesn’t care where the climber is from, if it’s delicate and going to break, it’s delicate and going to break. As for the crowding part of your argument, have you seen the crowds at the popular spots? Pretty sure opening new areas via the easily accessed MP would spread those crowds out and improve the public health aspect.

Yeah, please keep off all the delicate bomber granite!

Aren’t there, like, three or four biblical tomes of beta written about Tahoe bouldering?

I agree in the sense that it directs folks to buy the paper guides. Dave has done a great job with them, he deserves the credit and $ for the hard work.

Reno is considered local to Tahoe.  "from other parts" is quite the stretch there.

But saying that provides us with so much validation. Truckee isn't even "north Tahoe" any more?

As an early contributor to Mountain Project that has seen some nice, obscure areas over the years become crowded cesspools, I fully support your move to keep Tahoe bouldering off the site!

In fact, just make some hand drawn topos and pass them around your local group. Don't even publish a guide. That even leads to more traffic than you will want to deal with. Everyone needs their private stash of rock. Keep yours on the low down.

Tell me about it! One of our little gems was posted here by a guy from Utah. UTAH, of all places! And he probably drinks 3.2% beer.

i think we should properly express everything in the tahoe area because i think everything should be free on the internet. I climb At the mesa rim reno location 6.3 days a week with a few hours at donny summ on my days off. I really appreciate when people tell me where to go i.e mountain proj. Please keep spraying.
