So, I’ve been looking at animated knots, old MP threads, and other images/videos online and for the life of me, my brain just can’t seem to wrap itself around reconciling what I’m seeing in the videos and what I’m doing with my hands.
What I’m trying to get at is if what I just tied is a proper triple fisherman’s knot, albeit not the most neatly dressed and with some pretty shrimpy tails. In my reading, it appears a triple fisherman’s is synonymous with a triple overhand? I feel like I’m just tying a barrel knot around the other strand of rope, then tying another barrel knot with the other tail. What am I missing?
This would be for joining the ends of a cordalette for a quad, or potentially for joining two ropes on a long rap (not considering the potential for getting the rope snagged or using and EDK instead).
The left side looks correct. The right side seems a bit dodgy but that might mostly be a question of direction. For the crosses to properly align on a double/triple fisherman's knot you have to start the loops from the right direction, otherwise they are on opposite sides of the knot and it doesn't look as good/is harder to check for errors.
Maaaybe start practicing a double instead of a triple. It's a bit easier to check.

Hey Victor! Appreciate the comments.
I noticed the right one was a bit twisted relative to the left and didn’t perfectly align. I was also tinkering and retrying the triple and while the later ones were more aligned around the “axis” of the rope, I noticed the crosses were going in the same direction- bottom left to top right:
Should the crosses be opposing? So the left one in the image below going from bottom left to top right, then in the right knot the crosses should be top left to bottom right?
For reference, this is a properly dressed and oriented double fisherman's. As you can see, the crosses are oriented in the same direction so the knots slide into each other. I think going off of your last picture you're pretty much there :)
