If the numbers upthread are accurate, shutting down the forums--or at least everything outside of like, partner finding subforums and the Buy/Sell classifieds--seems like a no brainer.

Good call. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that earlier. I forgot that if you do anything besides climbing it is a waste of time. I will get to work shutting down the mtb forums as well simply by suggesting the same to them. Why waste your time discussing your hobbies when instead you could just do them 24/7.

That's kind of a specious reply. Most of the forum traffic occurs in the evening and during weekdays - meaning a lot of people posting at times when they can't climb.

I made a suggestion that they remove the forums from the homepage like 4 years ago.....

Getting rid of anonymous accounts will help limit the trolling. When your real name is your username, much less likely to troll. Just my 2 cents

I liked seeing the latest /active forums on the homepage. It was good info to see what's happening with climbing, areas, issues, etc. It allowed you to stay in touch and up to date. But I agree the forums were getting out of control with negativity, etc. It didn't feel good to log on and immediately be hit with nasty title of a new discussion started. Especially with the trolls going crazy. Now we're just greeted with awesome pictures, climb recommendations, etc. Maybe the change is a good thing.

Sadly I think society has forgot how to communicate in a respectful manner thanks to social media

Maybe Nick just wants people to be more productive at work instead of wasting everyone's time posting about climbing shoes or being woke.

Not on the front page it isn't. And,  I don't see it on the forum page either.

Ah found it on the forum page. I guess I'm not a troll.

At the top of the Forums Page there is a "Latest Forum Posts" tab.  Just saw it myself.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
