HELP! Renaming Texas 'subtle racism' Route

Hello everyone,

I submitted a route called Aunt Jamima (link here) at Roger's Park to MP a few years back. I'm not the first asctenter... asctentionist? ascentie? whatever, I didn't put up the FA, just put it on  MP.
This morning I got the below email asking me to change the name.

My feelings about whitewashing history aside, does anyone know who the FA is? And would they like to rename this route that's barely worth this long-winded post?

If we don't get ahold of the FA, MP or I will have to will rename it, but I'm open to suggestions, maybe "COVIDconundrum"

MP will not force *you* to rename it.  But the area admin could eventually rename it.

Why will you "have" to rename it? Rename it if you feel it's appropriate, but don't do it just because someone pressures you to.

Besides, it's misspelled and should be :"Jemima." Delicious syrup.

I think this thread can get 10 pages.

Even Aunt Jemima's family doesn't want the name changed:

I noticed the misspelling, too. Then I read the description and saw the route has cracks. Maybe the misspelling was intentional.

OP, I can check my guidebook to see if the route is there and if it mentions the FA. But honestly, I'd just ignore the message or reply that you didn't name the route and have no say in renaming it. Then MP admins can do what they want with the name of this mighty 10' V0.

OP, What about Pearl Jam?  One story from the nineties is when Eddie Vedder joined they renamed the band after his aunt’s jam.

For what it’s worth, your putting the route on MP is cool. If you don’t know the FA, you’re like a lore master recording a faint wisp of rumored history. You can preserve the prior name in the description after changing the name. Preserve the old lore. And if this excercise identifies the FA so much the better.

my interjection is probably no more meaningful than any part of this conundrum.

Call it High Fructose Corn Syrup, for increased accuracy. I’m kinda heartened that Dave Graham is out of that trailer and up on the proj.

You could rename it "WhiteWashing" or "Whitewashed"

Lies; the creation of Ten as well, as the perfect session jam, is well documented in RS in the same issue that Nirvana was interviewed for SLTS.

I don't see the problem given intentional misspelling and the fact that it has cracks, but kudos to you for respecting the need to wipe out subtle racism in our society.

I suggest "Aunt Jam" or "Councilman/Jeremy Jamm"

Call it Route Thief.

Or perhaps I Stole Your Route.

You have utterly no business determining the name of this route, ever.

To be accurate it is the family of one of several women who were paid to portray Aunt Jemima.

For the OP ... the easy solution is list the name as "Unnamed" in the title and then in the details just note that the name is not listed because it is considered offensive by some. At that point the route is documented. Which in the big scheme of things is what is needed.
