Summit register at Lily Rock is missing, anyone know why?  I like to go through it after a few laps on Jensens but no luck.  I hope it was taken for a good reason.

I placed the last one in 2015 and left my phone number for people to call if it was full. It was still there last fall, I checked. The previous one is at Idy historical society. I would hope that people bring it to them, they are the gathering place for things historical here in Idy.

Who the hell takes the summy register!?!?!

You sure you were looking in the right spot Brett? It's usually all the way at the summit by whodonit, not by jensens.

It might have been taken down to get restocked with beer.

I'm curious, "Lily Rock"... I mean historically that makes sense but unless you have an AARP card, there's really not reason to call it that. Why do you identify with "Lily Rock"?

Also, as mentioned,  "doing laps on Jenson's" wouldn't take you anywhere close to the summit.  In fact, summiting from Jenson's is probably harder than doing that route.  All that huffing and puffing at extreme altitude after all. And why laps on JJ?  I would think maybe a drift over to Coffin Nail, a pitch or two on the Ski Tracks?

The register was in place 2-3weeks ago at the summit.  Unfortunately, it hadn't been sealed very well and paper was wet.   Regrettably I did nothing about it,  I was just passing though and heard a pair discussing it.  And no, I wasn't soloing, I'm not that bad ass.

Thank you Alois, hopefully that's what happened to it, perhaps it was full and someone took it down there.

Murf and others, apologies that my routine of solo laps and then a scramble to the top for a rest and review of the register isn't kosher.  I climb for me and not you, best to all responders.

Regarding the Lily Rock vs Tahquitz, The locals have always called the Rock "Lily", after the Lemon Lily flower which grew all around the San Jacinto Mountains in the late 19 century and into the 20th.

You can still find these plants here and there every spring but they are very rare these days.
.
Tahquitz Rock is the name given to the formation by the first rock climbers who came here in the 1930s. It is almost exclusively used by today's rock climbing community, but not by Idyllwilders.
Locals call the formation above the rock, the one that has the fire lookout on its summit, the Tahquitz Peak.

The name has nothing to do with our age, you'll never hear a local San Jacinto Mountains resident call the rock Tahquitz.

This is what the flowers look like. Found at the South Ridge boulders.

Was up there yesterday and confirm no summit register box in the normal spot.

J Verg, I love those flowers, also enjoy polemonium when I come across it.  Anyone find the register by chance?

I mean I agree that JJ isn't the route I'd choose to do laps on, but I'm not sure I'd consider walking to be harder than climbing it.

Ahh polemonium is sweet. Keep an eye out for Tahquitz Mouse Tail (Ivesia Callida). Only found in the San Jacintos in granite cracks about 8k elevation. A nice little plant endemic to our crags.

What gives with the register?

Not sure but oddly I'm enjoying the flower lessons.
