Hello,

Just moved up to Norcal between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento. I've heard alot of good things about Tahoe. But also looking at other areas as well. What are some bomb bouldering areas?

South Lake Tahoe area is "bomb". Plenty to do there. But if you manage to run out, check out Columbia boulders some day when it's not too hot.

I'd highly recommend the Donner Lake/I-80 corridor.  Out of all of the areas in the state, I've found it to be the most enjoyable in every aspect.  The only downside is the approaches/density can be a bit lacking.  Not to say that there's no density, or that all of the approaches are heinous.  They just tend to be a bit more "out there" as opposed to roadside bouldering.

The upside is the quality of rock, the climbing on said rock, and the scenery are all absolutely out of this world.  Cannot go wrong.  Castle Peak is well worth the effort hiking out there, absolutely phenomenal climbing with a decent amount of density.

Bishop, Yosemite Valley, Toulumne, and the greater Tahoe area have enough bouldering to last a lifetime.  Buy the guidbooks and just head out to whatever looks the most appealing!  I've been absolutely swimming in ideas for where to go.

Head down to SoCal and hit the Aerial Tramway, Black Mountain, Joshua Tree if you're interested in seeing a bit more of the state.  I haven't personally climbed at the Tramway or Black mountain but I've heard great things about both, and I'll be going down there sometime this year (if things open up more).

What’s up! Come by Columbia State Park for some of the sweetest bouldering in Nor Cal. You can spend many many days cracking away at the unique limestone / marble boulders. You’ll find plenty of VB-V4 and plenty of V5-9. Something for everyone here

I80 From Sacramento to Truckee:

Not "bomb" but closest to Sacramento is Deer Creek Park (Rocklin Quarry) in Rocklin. Small but some quality granite problems.

Up I80 Auburn has Cave Valley (Auburn Quarry) mostly sport climbs, and The Bar bouldering across the river.

There's some other climbing areas on the way up (but not bouldering focused): Rainbow, Indian Springs, a little farther off I80 you have The Emeralds and Bowman.

At the I80 summit you reach much more: Donner Summit and Castle Peak areas, lots of bouldering.
