How about those folks who want to stay home, stay home.  And the folks that want to climb, go climb.  Easy.

You cannot transmit or receive a virus if you go straight from your car to the rock and from the rock to your car.  No stopping at the pub on the way home.  Easy.  There is so much rock out there that it is Easy to avoid others-especially since climbing obscure routes is the order of the day.  This is no different that taking a walk or hiking outside which everyone seems to be doing these days and is an accepted activity by the CDC.  Actually climbing is probable safer because you likely won't encounter anybody that you need to be 6' away from.

That is not what I meant at all Long Ranger... They don't take the lockdown serious and are skeptical of the danger of the virus. To the point of giving bad information as was mentioned earlier in this thread.

No, not anymore.

what happens when said group makes a mistake, gets injured and requires assistance from an outside agency? (this is not some far out and crazy possibility...we've had 2 fallen climbers in my area in the past 48 hours that required rescues). what happens when that person puts 20+ first responders at risk? what happens when the injured person goes to the hospital and takes a bed from a COVID-19 patient? what happens when that sick person is one of your friends back home who now gets to suffer because there isn't room at the hospital??

its not rocket science...

edit: sorry, got my dates mixed up. 1 fallen climber last night and 1 at the same place 2 weeks ago. my bad...

Or gets in a car accident on the way to/from (probably more likely then a climbing accident).

Bottom line - no matter how you rationalize and argue that you're special - if you choose to go climbing now - especially drive to go climbing - you are behaving in a selfish, me first manner.

Someone should start a Climbers Poll here on MP.
For, or against climbing until The shelter in PLACE is lifted.

Lol... You know outdoor recreation is still okay right? Just because they did not mention lawn darts does not mean lawn darts are off the table. Be sensible in what you do, get outside and enjoy some fresh air... Plus UV light kills germs, wont hurt to expose yourself to some of that.

I guess you didn't pay attention to the words in my post about climbing in obscure areas and not stopping for food/etc.  And you missed the part about climbing obscure routes to avoid other climbers.

Whatever.  You can stay at home watching Netflix and eating ice cream and I'll be "selfish" and go climbing in the manner I described.

If self-righteous woke-ness on MP could make the Coronavirus go away, I'm sure this crisis would be over in a few days.

Black Rock Campground in JTree is officially closed due to public safety concerns, effected dates are 3/21- 5/31. I just received my campsite location  closure and full refund email.

To answer your first question, the people who stay home and exhibit some will power will end up being affected by those who choose to interact go climb.

To answer the second part, unless those 2 climbers have slept in a van together and had no other social interactions for the past 2 weeks, climber A can end up giving something to climber B and vise versa and not even know it. Then they go home and have their normal interactions with children, parents, spouses co-workers etc and don’t even know they’re passing it on for up to 2 weeks. Let’s say 1 climber lives in Clark County Washington that already has 6(?) COVID people, but climber B lives in Skamania County with currently 0 positive people. Now we’re spreading to places that didn’t have this problem.  So again, can we all please remember to stop acting like THIS IS THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD and just find responsible ways to spend our time for 2 FUCKING WEEKS.

NZ did just that and is largely back to normal. We’ll just keep half assing it and drag it out for another few months, what’s another 100k…

Cheers to New Zealand but it is also an island nation  and one so isolated from the rest of the world as to have been one of the last land masses to be civilized. March was also summer there. And yes yes, not governed by a reality TV show slash steak salesman helps.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
