An administration who deals in lies and shuns science is currently in charge during the worst pandemic in 100 years. Placating people by saying that the main news sources sometimes gets things wrong, only strengthens their belief in crazy conspiracy theories, using YouTube and Facebook for "news sources" , and on. We need to stop this bullshit. So your own political bias shapes your perspective. I am questioning you and anyone like you who says that only one source of info is "news". I used to deal with unfiltered information a lot. I am not advocating that Alex Jones is a corroborated source of accurate information. I am not saying CNN or the NY Times is either, both have agendas. The idea is that we aspire to encourage free thought and challenge accepted thought so we are better suited to make up our own minds. I also think your hyperbole is a bit much the worst pandemic in 100 years and lies and shuns? Every admin lies and shuns lets agree on that no man or organization is perfect or will ever be 100% accepted by one ideology or another. However, your statement makes you look like a rock thrower from a glass house by calling someone else a nut job IMHO.
https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-viruses-obama-idUSKBN21B3K9 - What this article leaves out are the numbers in comparison so the authors from my observation are not being fully factual and asking us a readers to believe their research. Without providing side by side comparison of numbers, it leaves room for questions, which is fine, but don't you think it would be better to blow the accusations out of the ball park?
https://www.redstate.com/elizabeth-vaughn/2020/03/01/in-april-2009-h1n1-became-a-pandemic-six-months-later-after-1000-u.s.-deaths-obama-declared-it-a-public-health-emergency/ - This is clearly a biased website, and they reference Wikipedia as their sources. I would like to see the CDC timeline and a "news" agency reference it to prove or disprove the POTUS 44 handling of H1N1.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-pandemic-timeline.html - No spin here from what I can tell just the timeline. It may be to early to compare the current outbreak with H1N1 it isnt apples to oranges but future testing and hopefully independent studies will support or detract from the decisions made now and then.
https://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/estimates_2009_h1n1.htm - Much lower death rate. but then https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2017-2018.htm#anchor_1534865810538 - 56K? it all depends on death certificate pronouncements.
https://saraacarter.com/cares-act-pays-hospitals-to-report-covid-patients-even-those-presumed/ - Shes seems to lean right but makes some observations that need further review to make sure they are not taken out of context.
Finally I posted early - https://swuhealth.org/covid/ earlier in this thread there were predications of mass death and hospitals being overwhelmed locally it hasn't happened...yet. Why? If you live locally you might have observed that Washington County did'nt really lock down like other parts of the country. By the models we should have exploded with cases and deaths - elderly population of snowbirds and retirees. Hasn't happened. Why?
You say we need to stop this bullshit I say we need to question everything before our eyes and respect our fellow neighbors and citizens while making our own risk based decisions. If you want government or "news" to do it for you, you will be underwhelmed and left in a bread line.

Isaac Asimov I don't know why anyone would listen to a Texan on a Utah thread. This nails the predictive judgment you lay on someone who " has made up their mind" His "ignorance" is your perspective. You assume to have it all figured out. Keep telling yourself that while spouting intellectual quotes. Change your name to Professor Peabody.

This is why I've refused to continue to engage with about 6-10 people on this topic. Their minds are made up and refuse to listen to anything that contradicts their view. The absolute annoyance is when they get shot down in one thread, they then go to one of the other CV threads and post the same incorrect bullshit. It's an exhausting, pointless game of whack-a-mole, especially when dealing with people who received their degrees in epidemiology and constitutional law from Google University. Or Alex Jones College.

Auden its totally fine I enjoy the light heartiness of some of the posts. Couldn't agree more. I should have used a little better digital ettiquite and put on some sarcatisitic note or something I pick on Texans as a term of endearment since I have many fond memories of friends I served with from there.

Of course, you can report it to Twitter as the word “soyboy” technically violates the Twitter rules on grounds of abusive behaviour and hateful conduct. Same goes for Facebook- delete the person’s comment, if it persists then block the person from commenting from your business page. Also remember that Facebook has a way of blocking offensive words- learn more on blocking offensive words from your page here. If the person uses the word in a Direct Message on your profile, or on your Timeline, you can block the person. Read it still don't see the reason to call them a name, are you sinking to their level? Block, report whatever, got it, I don't care. I have made mistakes and called people ugly names it only hurts you and feeds them.

Take it for what its worth you will be a lot happier if you don't peg yourself as this higher than the rest of us approach. I don't know what POTUS 45 says on a daily basis, don't care. I am not trying to convince you that conspiracy guy is right or his shit don't stink. No more than yours does. The "non science-denying party" has many of its own problems. Both parties want people just like you though. So entrenched in the political letter next to their name that they are unable to respectfully accept a different point of view. We shouldn't be so consumed with hate and discontent that we are provoked to anger. I have been and its not the right answer. If you don't like the pieces someone is putting down and you think they are crazy then don't engage. But don't make yourself look like an ass just to try and prove yourself "right".

Regards, Again, placating the people who are objectively wrong, is detrimental to society. I'm not espousing an "elitist" viewpoint. I am stating that conspiracy theorists should not be given the same weight as science based thinking. Take climate change - talk shows / news / etc would have one scientist pro and one against on a segment and let them dispute/talk/whatever. That frames the for/against argument as 50/50 or equal. In reality there was a study showing 97% of scientists believed in the evidence of human-influenced climate change. So that one climate denier scientist should have had 32 scientists debating against them, to property weight the discussion. I'm not a crazy left-winger. I'm all for a balanced approach to life and politics/policy. I'm all for being fiscally conservative in many areas. Ironically enough, that is no longer a Republican viewpoint. Trump has so poisoned the Right, that they just accept whatever they can get. I'm annoyed at extreme political correctness / wokeness / whatever and believe that is also detrimental.
I don't care about being proven "right". I care about the decline of critical thinking that is on display today, and is masked under a political and/or religious belief. Don't present beliefs as facts and there's no need to be proven right or wrong. But please don't sit idle on the sidelines and let people spout obvious bullshit without calling them out on it.

Honestly if the evil CCP was able to plan and execute this whole Corona thing, that's the level of coordination and operational jurisprudence I want running the show. And I'm young enough to learn a new language, no sweat.

I’m with this guy—distinguishing between four tones can’t be that difficult to pick up on if my tone-deaf roommate could manage a B or so through Mandarin by cramming three times per week. And I like the uniforms. They’re rather sporty and have nice pockets.
