Any chance you could be a bit more specific? For every $1 spent on gas, how many pennies need to be sent to the "offset" to break exactly even when it comes to global warming? Do you (or anyone else willing to pitch in?) have any data on this?

To the OP: As for a possible route, it depends on which season you start. Starting early spring, I would go CA, NV, UT, CO, WY. This is 5 states, so if you repeat this every year for ten years, you've got your fifty states covered. You've got a lot more than 50 climbs done , but you still have barely scratched the surface of 3 and 4 star routes.

I use Mossy Earth. They have calculators for general life, road trips, and air travel. It costs $12/month plus whatever additional travel you want to offset.

Entirely accurate? Probably not, but significantly better than doing nothing.

Caleb,

Here is a free movie pitch idea for you:
Travel to as many states as you see fit/have budget for and spend 3 days
Day 1: Visit the local climber coffee shop hangout(Buy Coffee), check in to the climber campground, then meet the locals(Beer/Wine/Kombucha helps)
Day 2: Spend a day volunteering with the local access group, doing trail work/cleaning up trash
Day 3: Climb the Classics this is the reward for supporting the local economy, building a connection with the community, and giving back

If you traveled the US and spent 3 days doing this in most of the major destination areas It would make a compelling film.

Theres no way any climbing brands would help with this project. There's way too many sensitive folks in the intended audience that would freak out over that much unnecessary travel. Figure out how to solar power-hang glide your way across the country, and you got a hit.

Me too, and it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread. Spoiler - he found NOTHING to climb in Louisiana.

If I remember correctly it was based on the facetious notion of hunting stashed bouldering rugs? Kinda dates the article I guess...

Get off the eco-trip. I’m assuming that op is going to do this trip by bike and inflatable raft. Otherwise why bother?

too stressfull and  a waste of resources. 50 day road trips are fun when you take time to smell the roses.

If you're not into the solar powered hang glider idea, I think you should do 50 weeks. Take one week off for christmas, and another off in the summer.

If you are so fixated on this goal it is easier to just do a bunch of long trips to a few destinations and then you will eventually get a lot of states. With that said no one will be impressed by this accomplishment.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
