Hey all, wondering how everyone else budget looks when planning and traveling internationally. For example:

Destination: XXXX (duration)
Airfare: $XXXX
Housing/camping: $XXXX
Food: $XXXX

For me travelling to Italy maybe 30 bucks fuel money, 150 for dinner in the best restaurant in town and going back to the waitresses pad takes care of accomodation. Your mileage may vary.

Entirely depends on where you're going, and for how long.....obviously Thailand will be a lot different than Chamonix.  With that said, here's an example:

Destination: Mallorca (1 week)
Airfare: $600 (NYC)
Housing/camping: $500
Food: $100

I can do Canada in ~the same fashion.  The OP should at least give us a hint as to the two ends of his travel - but its more fun this way I suppose.

It depends mostly on how long you are going for, and where you arw going. Going to Alaska for 10.daya on a glacier, or spending the summer in Chamonix all require much more detailed.planning than flying into Denver for a week

That's all fair. I was looking for more international travel and seeing what different peoples experiences were with different durations...

Just for fun, some quick accounting of my trip last fall.  Was kind of some climbing but mostly touristic stuff.

Airfare:  kinda depends on the deals floating around.  Italy last year for me was around 700 round trip.  Booked in winter for a trip in October.  SLC to Rome and back.  I'd usually expect 1200 to 1400 per ticket.  Savings gave us some margin for nicer lodging.

Transport:  I usually always rent a car.  12 days for around 165 bucks.

Lodging:  we went pretty sweet on the lodging.  Airbnb for the whole trip and in nice places.  Average probably around $90 per night.  Could have done a lot less spendy but we wanted to be comfy.  And...we were.

Food:  we ate breakfast at "home".  Usually packed some nosh for lunch.  Dinner out.  My guess $50 per day.  We usually keep dinner costs down a bit by doing "happy hour" at our lodging.  So, just a main each usually.

16 nights X 90 + 16 X 50 = 2240.

2240 + 165 + 700 X 2 = 3970.

So...right around 2k each for a full two week trip (17 days/16 nights).

Probably a few incidentals like museum tickets and gas for the rental car.  And broken windshield.  And traffic ticket.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
