Mehall is the man! In addition to publishing excellent content, he also donates a significant amount of time and money to bolt replacements in Durango. Definitely check out his books and the Zine.

Just dashed out to the university library after they announced that they're closing it after today. Let's see if I can make it through The Waves this time. An armload of Trollope should outlast any quarantine. But should that fail there's Christopher Hitchens and Hunter Thompson, too. According to the "date due" tags, these items have all been hygienically sheltered in place for quite a while.

"if you stop after the 3rd book"? Book 4 isn't out yet... right?

You're right! haha I was tired of it after the 3rd and never looked to see the 4th! I should probably give it another whirl, Book 1 was amazing.

I recommend WoT series and any of Brandon Sanderson's works. Also Lies of Lock Lamour is a great series if you stop at the 3rd book.

On true stuff try The Emerald Mile, Boys in a Boat, Cadillac Desert.

Sobering stuff try Red Notice.

SSshhhhh! I'm trying to look smart on the internet!!

Emerald Mile is amazing. One of my favorite books.

The author honestly made me feel like I was in the boat with them... When I first read it the part when they hit Crystal rapids had me in goosebumps and my heart up. Then the end when the one dude was pulling for however many hours straight... I felt like I could feel his exhaustion...

I have searched Netflix multiple times but can’t find anything related to reading or books? Is this an IG thing?

Best book I've read in the last 10 years is probably A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

Also some escapist/investigator novels set against the nazi germany backdrop, Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther novels are dark, clever and entertaining.  There's like a dozen.

Have you read the Hyperion series? Dan something I think is the author.

Climbing related: Climbing Free by Lynn Hill (if you haven't read it yet).

Non-Climbing related: I'm currently reading "Life on the Edge" ( amazon.com/Life-Edge-Coming…) and enjoying it.

The Exploration and Survey of the Great Salt Lake, by Howard Stansbury.
A fairly unknown American classic IMO.

Also the journal of the Dominguez-Escalante expedition in 1776, GD fascinating stuff.

Not enough fiction in these recommendations! Deep in a Tom Robbins binge right now. Highly recommended, and if you can't handle him, David Sedaris can tickle a similar spot!

Sometimes A Great Notion and Monkey Wrench Gang were the 2 best books Ive recently read in a long time.

While both were great, Ken Kesey really blew my fucking mind.

If I just want to read and turn my mind off, and I won't admit this to you if I used my full name or even had a picture, I can read the Walt Longmire series for hours….but if we meet in person I'll never admit it.

If Kesey blew your mind and you want to know about his adventures in the 60's read The Electric Kool Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.

Kool Aid Acid Test.

Sci fi fans? Grab The Dawn Saga by Zachariah Wahrer. Four books total, great story!

Since you can't go to a library for a paper book, try Hugh Howey out. "Wool" for starters, but if you have read Slaughterhouse Five, Howey has a really good homage to that, which is a 9/11 story.

I admit unashamedly, I am a Barbara Kingsolver fan. Anything of hers, including essays and poetry!

And, anytime any book thread comes up? "South" by Shackleton. Such a great story!

I've always felt a failure to my generation that I've never read "Steal This Book", but hey, I'm a devoted user of my library and they could never keep the durned thing on the shelves!

Best, Helen

The Coming Plague was about the best science book, for non scientists, that I've ever seen. Very well done, because she has the science background and training.
