Some speed buckles slip, BD is notorious for this.

Good to know since I’ll be needing to replace my Corax soon.

Geez.
No one ever believes me.   :-)
It's a Yates Big wall harness and instead of the webbing belt with buckle that comes with it tom thread into the loops in both sides of the harness I use 1 inch tubular webbing and tie the harness
in with a water knot.

I was doing my George Burns impression that day.

Interesting! Was thinking about making a harness, but hadn't decided on a buckle (regular climbing harness) vs maillon (regular caving harness) vs knot (swami belts, improved harnesses...And Dwain!)

When my wife was just getting into roped climbing, with an eye on climbing in the Dolomites, she went to "Cliff-hanger"
& after seeing that "Opening Scene" ~ she would not wear a buckle harness for 10 years.

 my blue & yellow (DeepMarine/Sunflower) pile-lined Yates Tie-In Harness.

& Leg-loops
A full 6in.wide with 4in. wide matching pile-lined leg-loops, that were so warm I never used them

Then - Also a Tie-In harness,
For display;

Tied by a truculent teen

A lazy bowline, should be sinched down to a 'smaller-than-your-fist-Loop'

Thinking of building your own?

I remove all buckles, all gear loops, and all belay loops from my harnesses. If you are relying on your harness to save your life, you are approaching every climb with the mindset of a prepubescent frat boy. Climbers should NOT be taking lead falls.

Adam Mac, you are right. Best not to take falls. You and I employed this strategy on February 1st, 2020 when we onsighted the Cloud Tower (5.11c) in Red Rocks, Nevada.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
