I can't believe someone used "strategic business development" to talk about a $16/hr climbing instructor gig... Is this a fancy way of saying "find newbs to guide at the red, and find gullible people to buy spi certification ?

I don't trust anyone without at least one gym belay certification tag, or without an SPI tag.

How do you know who has an SPI cert at the party? They will tell you.

How many SPI certs does it take to change a light bulb? Doesn't matter, SPI cert doesn't change anything.

What does an SPI cert and an emergency shower have in common? They both douse you in spray.

Wow, $16/hr for a "lead" position that's only seasonal is...rough.

Ah...but the "season" lasts 3/4ths of the year.  Now, does that make the real pay $21.33/hr or $12/hr ??????

Huh. Thought guides would make a little more. I pay my cleaning lady 3x that.

Hey "Glacial"...I was going to say exactly that !  (Well, in truth, we only pay her 2x as much.)

Maybe the whole thing is a 'troll' ???????       Or, maybe guide "wages" in the south are really that low?

$16/hr is dirtbag "six figures".

Unfortunately, the link checks out. I doubt someone created the website just to troll... the pay really is that low.

Astounding the amount of responsibility the position is tasked with for $16 an hour. And yes my cleaning lady makes double that as well. If there’s anything to learn from this it’s this. If you use guides, tip the hell out of them. Seriously. The responsibility for keeping often newly hatched climbers alive, going out in the sharp end with guys who just got their “belay cert” and $16 bucks is the compensation? I hope they are providing life insurance, health, 401k, stock options and a company truck and per diem to go along with the base wage.

So you’re saying we should feel sorry for guides? Are they the next vulnerable population?

Nothing of the sort. But for the job description posted, the pay scale seems a bit low given the responsibly and need for someone to handle ”strategic business development.” A cashier at a Texaco station in Louisiana makes $12 plus benefits and needs no certification to hand you cigarettes and potato chips.
