Google Play: Thats weird I actually looked on GP right before my post and it said the season wasn't available yet. Now to decide if I want to spend the $2 ;-)
no, no you don't.
The 2$ is nothing in itself, but the time it would take you to watch this joke is time that is lost and you can never get back, and that is priceless!! Because in terms of learning and entertainment I'd say you're better off reading the back of a cereal box for half an hour.
I’m partially surprised Terra Incognita didn’t publicly boycott the episode with their “patriarchal/toxic-masculinity/white supremacist/asshole” comments they’ve recently been throwing around the Instagram. Christ on a crutch (cue massive eye roll)!!
When Alex did the hard part of that slab I think he must of been told to act concerned a d take more time. I mean it looked a little run out but for Pete's sake he was on bolts and what looked like no more than a 5.7 slab

Yeah...but he was being belayed by Bear...so basically free soloing.
F yeah...true alpinists know that marmot skulls make a sweet Reverso. Thread each half rope through the eye sockets.
Noob tip: make darn sure they’re completely dispatched before attempting. they get awful nasty if they ‘come to’ mid rappel...

Looks like after AH made that, "Hmmmm, seems sketchy" face, that simul-rap without knots turned into them putting figure eights with a bight, clipped into lockers. AH may take risks, but he ain't crazy!
Watched it last night. Alex seemed like he enjoyed it, and took a number of opportunities to slag on Bear.
Yeah, he got a few good ones in along with some good WTF? looks. It seemed like good fun for both of them.
Those shoots prolly take a week or so to set up and film. Alex was probably put up in first class accommodations in the Alps. Not bad for a valley rat.

So many things I don't understand here.
1. They're supposedly doing a "counter-balance rappel" but they tie figure 8's on bites attached to anchor with locker. This is not a counter balance rappel. They're each individually on the anchor.
2. They're simultaneously rappelling, but both on double strand ropes.... this defeats the purpose of simul-rapping. Why not just go 1 at a time and bring 1/2 the rope.
3. The other obvious problem with this is they can't pull their rope....
4. Supposedly a 300 foot rappel and they both do it on double strands, that's 1200 feet of rope or 365 meters of rope..... there's no way bear was carrying that in those bags. They clearly brought in more rope between the sequences (I just watched the clip). This is very misleading and unrealistic (no surprise given the show).
5. Bear says they're gonna need both ropes and the emergency rope to make that far of a rap.... it sounds like they're joining 3 ropes together... so is somebody passing a knot?!
I don't understand why they need to outright lie about so much. The ropes, not actually simul rapping, rapping off of a cable bridge (WTF?). Like, climbing and rappelling are already cool enough to the average person. Why add the fake drama? It's fulfilling every stereotype of crappy american TV. I feel like Nat Geo is capable of a lot better.
People, just enjoy the episode! If you are nitpicking the details, you are missing the point. Of course its all staged, like any other 'reality TV', who cares? If you live in Colorado, just look at the episode he filmed in Eldo for context. It's still entertaining, if not genuine.
This show is all about the campfire chats at the end of the day. They provide the best info that celebrities usually won't reveal in other settings. The part about his dad should be interesting. It was barely covered in Free Solo from Alex's perspective.
I wonder which hotel they stayed in after breaking down the camping scene for the night? And I’m betting the dinner was a lot more satisfying after Alex went back to his room and puked up the well done pigeon that the crew had cleverly planted on the ledge. Carrion my ass. I’d love to have watched the filming of the climbing scene. I’m sure it went something like “Hey Alex, can you down climb that last 20 feet and make it look a bit harder? A little more grunting and emotion if you can?” I wonder how many takes that bridge scene took. “Alright Bear and Alex, can you step off the bridge so the riggers can come over and make the Simul Rap a safe fixed rappel....?” “Hey wardrobe, can you grab a fresh pair of undies for Bear, his are all wet. And bring some ice packs for the dead bird while you’re at it....
What a great episode. This should be a highlight reel for the scouting movement! Scouting often uses techniques from mountaineering, rock climbing & rappelling as a tool to overcome fear. This is truly, what a mature eagle scout should be able to spread his wings & aspire to be...at least half or a quarter of Mr. Honnold's ability (b/c scouting uses climbing as a teaching tool so much). For icing on the cake, they exfilled via paraglider; & I would even go as far as to say that paragliding/paramotoring is also within the grasp of a mature eagle, or a product or denizen of the scouting movement. Mr. Honnold has summited the apex of climbing & now the question is, will he enter the world of paragliding/paramotoring? His methods are effective with heights, right...!
