Does anyone out there have a complete set of Gunks guidebooks (preferably in the New Paltz area) that I could photograph?

Photograph (as in a shot of the bookshelf with all these)... or photocopy (the pages thereof)? I can do the former for you and send you the pic.

If you're looking for an easy/cheap alternative to buying all of what's out there, maybe you want a used copy of DW's Gunks Select book? It doesn't cover Peterskill, however, which we all know is the most important cliff on the Ridge.

Please don't even consider that piece of trash to be a Gunks guide!

Well I'm missing a few of those. Maybe your best bet is to contact the Amer. Alpine Club. Supposedly their library is very comprehensive.

If someone could provide me with a 50s AMC topo I could help you out (well, I don’t have the Orenczak, on principle, but that’s easy).

Don’t forget the 1960 Appalachia article, the Ingalls 1962 list, and the Crowther 1964 IOCA guide.

Have you heard of the Annex in NP? They sometimes sell old books.

You could also take a photo of my phone with the app open

don't be ridiculous. how many pictures would i have to take to get all the app pages?

Well, you’d need to take a photo of more than one phone, because there’s more than one app, if we’re really going for a comprehensive collection. And if you split the Gunks App into its multiple volumes by crag, then obviously even more phones.

I really feel like someone should be putting together a new guide book for this area. Such amazing climbing to not have anyone working on a new book. what a shame.

Don't fret, someone is. But I'm guessing this isn't news to you. ;-)

The 2015 Purple wasn't really a new guide, right? It had identical content to the 2004 Gray guide. Just a new cover.

Edit: i guess I mean blue but I was just using the same descriptor as the OP.

You mean the blue cover? (Purple was the Nears.) Anyway, the blue was a new version of the gray. A few micro updates but 99% the same.

Also made it hard to refer to the Blue Dick guidebook as now there are two.

The old Blue Dick ("72 IIRC) had a stiffer cover than the latest DW Trapps book. So you may want to refer to them as the Stiff Blue Dick and the Soft Blue Dick, respectively.

Good thinking. That would solve the issue. I may go with the Stiff Blue Dick and the Thick Blue Dick, though, because the girth of the recent editions is always the main thing one notices first, in my experience.

In the new Alpinist #72 Whitney Boland mentions she has a full set displayed in her living room. Maybe try reaching out on Instagram @whitneyboland.

i doubt a pro climber featured in Alpinist #72 with thousands of followers wants to help with this.

I too have climbed in the Gunks and have my guidebooks on display in my living room.
