Grigri+ Phone Mount

Hey MP-

I am a newer climber and entrepreneur based out of California. My climbing partner and I created an iPhone mount for the GriGri+ for TR applications!

The idea behind this device is to increase the safety of belayers at the gym and crag. I see people at my gym/crag checking their phones while belaying for text messages, route information, and to check the time. Obviously taking attention off of the climber and brake hand isn’t ideal so reaching into your pocket for your phone is dangerous.

Our new mount should solve this problem by keeping the belayer's eyes up and at the GriGri rather than digging through their pockets. Making reading routes, beta, texts etc. while belaying much safer.

We have a few models 3D printed in-house that we are testing. Mostly testing different options to mount to the GriGri such as adhesives and screw mounts. All mechanics such as avoiding the anti-panic handle have been figured out.

Our Kickstarter will be live on Feb 1st. but I wanted to get some feedback from the real climbers here at MP before the launch!

Assuming you're not serious, this is funny!

If you are serious, this is sad and dumb.

I have a much cheaper and safer alternative.  Don't climb with people who are on their phone when belaying.  And definitely don't climb with someone who is so addicted to their phone that they feel the need to purchase some sort of phone holder for when they are supposed to be paying attention to another human being who is depending on the phone addicted noob for safety.

and at the GriGri  - You can't see the GriGri through the phone

So, what you really need is this -

It is almost perfect - there are TWO beverage holders, and a horn to spout beta. But, with the following modification, the phone holder attached to the brim, it would be better -

If you want to be really fancy, I would add a GoPro attachment, just for  the heck of it

I’ll try to answer your questions in order (if not rhetorical)

1. Belayers need to know route info to shout beta to the climber if they get stuck. Climbers can’t pull out guide books and phones while climbing.
2. You can’t see through the GriGri but you can see your brake hand easily. That is most important.
3. Not messing with your phone is great feedback. Not messing with your phone while driving is a good idea too, but phone mounts for autos are plentiful.

Unless you have thought of this previously: Make sure you can tilt the phone forwards in your picture, so the camera lens faces upwards. This important feature enables taking pic/vid of the climber so you can send it live to your favorite antisocial media. Let's call this enhancement Flip Phone (TM).

That cracked me up!  However, the GoPro mount is real. I mounted one to my backpack facing down and connected it to my phone while rapping. Works as an epic reverse camera!

  Hey, there's a safety feature we've been locking for! Are you saying that you put the gopro mount (with attached gopro camera) at the bottom of your pack facing downhill and then sending the streaming image in real time to your phone attached to the grigri in front of you while rapping? This is absolutely genius! Now we will never need to rap off the end of the rope again.

Finally, a good way to watch porn at the crag. Just don’t swap your brake and “other” hand.

Needs a way to tilt up fast so you can get super sick butt shots of your buddy TR'ing that pink 5.9 in the corner.

Is this back compatible with original GriGri or GriGri 2?

Will the Kickstarter have a package support option (2 mounts, t-shirt, sticker)?

Please make one compatible with tube-style devices!! My partner recently microfractured his GriGri :(

April 1st is a better kickstarter launch date.

Brilliant! However, I recently switched to the Revo. Is this compatible with all assisted-braking devices? Also, do you plan for multiple colors? I'd like to coordinate with my rope color if at all possible.
