Anyone wanna get the first ascent of the decade on a Flatiron?

Crazy idea to start climbing up late tomorrow night and summit after midnight on January 1st, be the first one up there in the 2020s. If anyone is down for a crazy cold sufferfest to start the year let me know! I have ropes and gear and can lead up to 10c. |

The Flatirons were still kind of covered in snow this morning. To be honest I’m very tempted but conditions may be a bit too icy for my taste. I’ll take a look tomorrow morning and see what’s it like there after 2-3 hours of sun. |

Oh you funny Boulderites and your Flattys. |

Yer a year early. The new decade does not start until 2021. |

Update: from a bit south of downtown it looks like there are some wet / icy patches. Hard to tell with the sun right in your eyes. |

Just aim for midnight. Summit too soon and your consolation is bagging the last one of this decade. Win-win. |

Sorry for such a terrible shot, but this is what things looked like from N Boulder this late afternoon |

Well, inquiring minds wanna know... |

I summitted around 9am on 1/1 via the 1st Flatironette + Spy + N. Arete combo. Rock conditions on the ridgeline were exciting with dry snow in spots. Didn't see any other footprints in the snowfield before the final summit block besides mine from 12/31, but ya never know with all the crazies in Boulder! |

Well done - cheers to the start of another terrific year! |

Lots of traffic on the flatties this weekend. |
