There was a group of about 8-10 girls all sitting around watching one girl top rope a route and cheering her on. One of the routes was open so I started walking towards it and one of the girls from the group noticed me and raced me to the route, like actually ran over. I asked her if she was going to climb the route and she gave me a very stern yes. She didn't have any gear, and her friends proceeded to bring over a rope, her harness, draws, her shoes and the like while she 'puppy guarded' the route. I thought it was strange, but figured they'd let me climb on the other route they had a rope set up on because they weren't using it. I went over to talk to the group and asked them if my group and I could take their rope down, and climb on the route that they were not using. I assured them I would take their draws off and clean the route for them. The woman I talked to emphatically and rudely said "uh, no. We are climbing on that route. Don't you see our rope?". Figuring it wasn't worth my time (a few walls were minutes away) I just shrugged and walked off.

Large groups that squat on an entire wall are the worst.

J-- Kaiser wrote: To OP: I think climbers are by far better at not bulling each other, as compared to other sports groups. The vast majority of climbers I see are supportive and considerate of everyone around them when they climb. If you focus your said research on only the negative instances when bullying exists, you risk skewing your conclusion, and by extension, painting the whole climbing community in that light. Please consider this. Just because we as climbers are "far better", a statement that could be debated at length, does that mean it does not occur? Sure in a perfect world it would not happen at all, but that is far from the truth. Does this mean it should be ignored completely? I am curious as to why you would want to brush these issues under the rug and not work on addressing them? We are talking about bullying in the gym atmosphere, possibly social media as others have pointed out here, and the last time I was in a gym and took a look around and chatted with a few folks only a small number of them climbed outside and would hardly classify them as the "climbing community" that I know. Thus bullying may be prevalent in this new age community of ego pounding gym climbers.

I remember back in the day when "Bullying" was referring to a physical incident. Now days people think it's anytime your feeling get hurt. Who's never had their feelings hurt? LOL Snowflakes!

LOL Snowflakes! You had me up till “Snowflakes!”. Terms like that are as if you articulated a clear statement only to turn around with an obvious shit stain leaking through your pants.

Ian why are you so mad? I am trying to bring awareness and you are a prime example of displaying micro aggression.
