Tuolomne conditions and camping

We're thinking about going to Tuolomne for several days starting July 21st. What's the snow situation there now? What about camping options? From what I can tell none of the campgrounds up there will be open until August 1st... Any info appreciated

Park outside the park 2 min on the east side, great roadside camping if you can stay in your car and cheap if you need to rent a site. Conditions right now are great was just there yesterday and it was perfect temps for sending.

A lot of snow still up in the high country. Expect to cross it on longer approaches. No campgrounds open. Climbing is good!

Ellery Lake campground (as Stuart said, 2 min drive from east entrance) was open as of this weekend. More campgrounds are open near Poole Power Plant Rd. closer to Lee Vining. Plenty of people were not-so-stealth camping along the road near Tioga Pass as well.

The entire Pass was a campground last weekend  #vanlife  ugh, so annoying

Perfect climbing weather, at least.

Also, significantly less snow and water than in 2017, so there's a chance the campground opens before 8/1 - you just can't book it before then, currently. 

Is the Tuolomne meadows campground closed right now, even for walkups? I’ll be there 7/18 and was planning to try for a walk up site but it’s sounding like it maybe isn’t even open?

We are excited to announce that Tuolumne Meadows campground will be opening for the season on Friday, July 12, 2019.

This campground is half reservation, half first come first served. Advanced reservations for the time period July 12 through July 31 will be released on Wednesday, July 10 at 7 a.m. Pacific time via www.recreation.gov
