Fatality in Boulder Canyon Fri 6/28/19

Stay safe out there and hug your loved ones extra tight. Condolences to those who lost a family member, partner, and friend today. |

This could be someone scrambling around the falls and not a roped climber, judging from the lack of details and the location. |

Didn’t sound like a roped climber. I was a across the canyon on Tonnere tower when this happened. Watched the whole thing unfold from the summit. We didn’t know exactly what was going on, but by the time we got down RMRG was already in action and there were at least 3 ambulances on the scene.. Talked to some climbers that were on that side of the canyon when it happened and they were pretty shook. |

Sincere condolences to the family, friends, and community of the deceased, and the responders. |

Eric Carlos wrote: Somebody fell on Friday evening. They were found by SAR after a 20-min search. Life-saving techniques and resuscitation were deployed; they were unsuccessful. Due to terrain, weather and waning light, it was decided to recover the body Saturday morning. The deceased is described as a “climber” by the Sheriff's office and media. The presence of climbing gear (rope, harness, protection, climbing shoes, etc) is unknown to the general public at this point. The name of the deceased hasn’t been released yet. |

Was this a group of climbers or non-climbers on the rocks? |

Paul Deger wrote: It's unclear. We don't know if they were roped, soloing on 5th class, casual scrambling, or just hiking. It could be any of these at Boulder Falls. I expect there will be more details after they notify next of kin and investigate the accident. |

Thanks L - hopefully more details if they were climbers helps to inform the public not to take scrambling on 5th class lightly. |
