Shit, may he rest in peace

It’s easy to rip into people for falling freesoloing. It’s easy to criticize people’s risk taking. It’s not easy to accept that life is difficult and we all deal with it in different ways. Maybe this is just what he had to do to cope. I know I have to climb and I have to do it the way I want to. Life is short no matter how long you’re here. Hope he had a blast.

Condolences and shit, pouring one out for the homie.

Godspeed.

May he RIP...

Holy shit! I thought someone was making a joke in very poor taste... I saw him posting on a friend’s Facebook just yesterday or a day before, making plans to project a route together in the fall...

Very sad to hear! I think nobody, regardless of what they thought of Austin, ever wanted to see such news. May he Rest In Peace.

C'mon MP, can we not make this into a "I told you so?"

RIP dude I never met, sounds like he was a good enough guy.

To be fair, he was criticizing Seb (who appears to still be alive).  That said, I agree with your sentiment.

I see that now, My bad Chris. Go ahead and call out live people to your hearts content.

The saddest thing to me about this death is that there are ways to deal with mental health problems other than risking one's life soloing.

he didn't use soloing as a means to deal with his bpd, nice blind assumption though.

He posted such several times on his blog and in Reddit comments.

I'm glad you're here to pass judgment, make assumptions, and tell us all why he did what he did.

Did you guys even pause for a moment to consider what Austin would have thought about his accident?

Reading the first few pages of this thread, including Austin's post and the replies he got:

Well, he did post this:

"I’m not going to die climbing. I’d be far too pissed off if my epitaph read “we told you so.” Plus, there’s this thing called “free-soloing,” and I really like it... so if I kark-it... I won’t get to do that anymore... so that don’t make any sense atall!"

I have no idea. But it doesn't sound like he wanted to die.

His death is a tragedy. I am very sorry for all of his friends and loved ones, and everyone else who was impacted by his death.
