Was he "rattling" his tail? I've seen fox snakes mimic rattlesnakes by twitching their tail. When in contact with dry leaves, it can make a rattle sound and ward off predators.

Nah he was just slitherin around. That definitely would have warded me off, though.

"Buzzworms"... That's great! I need to remember that one!

They are a subset of the greater family of “danger noodles.”

Ever get them on route there? Here are pics I took yesterday here in Scottsdale at Pinnacle Peak on a route called “Chutes and ladders”. Its western Diamondback season here right now for sure.

That bush was tickling my nose when I noticed it. So I started down climbing and pulled out my last piece and realized I had almost bumped another DB down lower that I mistook for a rock.
Kinda blurry but that aint no chunk of granite in there. Dark bomber jams are gonna scare me for a little wile after that.

Both were up at the red arrows

But hey, it was May 23 and only 70f out so I cant complain!

Man I am seeing one or more a day on trail runs in SoMo right now. Phoenix area has so many little buzz worms, keeps my heart rate up.

Fun fact: there's another version of the game "Chutes and Ladders" called "Snakes and Ladders". How apropos!
