my original post here thought the heel rubber was actually just leather, as it is the same color as the leather in the middle of the shoe and appears to be that way from the photos at the above link. 

The rubber is red...

Carbon black is mostly a filler in rubber formulations - just because it ain't black, doesn't mean it ain't rubber

That's why I bought 3 pairs on closeout. Rep big macs to the end. 

They seem like they'll be great shoes. I indeed thought the red heel, being the  same color as the leather in the middle of the shoe, was the same material as it appears in the photo of the link that I posted. That would be the reason for my surprise and clear misunderstanding/lack of correct information.

Has anyone noticed a size difference between the old testarossas and the new ones? I just got a new pair size 41 in the mail and they seem a half size longer than my old size 41's...
