I lost mine that way too, but it was a Utah plate.
Sacrifice to the river and terrible LNT ethics.
I carried a weeks worth of poop out of Indian creek, but left a shiny piece of metal. 

The plate is 393 RQH

Ah not mine! Lost one crossing the creek a few years ago too.
