Summer Conditions?

What can you tell me about bouldering at the following during June?

- Rumbling Bald
- Grayson Highlands
- New River Gorge
- Coopers Rock

I know it's not the ideal time, but I'll be near these areas for the month of June. Of course, no hard sends, but can I have some decent fun if I stay in the shade and climb in the mornings? Also, does anyone recommend boudler zones within these areas that won't be as overgrown with the summer brush?

Thanks!

Grayson is the coolest in the summer and you can find shade at many boulders. The rock is potentially the most brutal; it is extremely sharp.

I’d take Rumbling Bald off the list. It’s pretty unpleasant there in June. Given the geographic spread, why not add the Boone area to your list? Lots of shady, cooler options there.

I second Grayson Highlands. Also, the new can be decent as well. There is also some rad DWS. Boone is also a good option. Grandmother Mountain is quite cooler because of the high elevation.

Spend a summer season bouldering at Grayson and you will be able to crimp on a dime. It's amazing up there.

Thank you everyone! Any must do boulders at Grayson?

Also, regarding Boone, what areas are there?

Boone is pretty low-key in terms of exposure and the posting of beta. Some of the larger, better-known areas are the Blowing Rock boulders (on mnt project), Buckeye Knob (recently acquired by the ccc and has up coming trail days), and Grandmother mountain (best summer destination with SENSITIVE access issues). Many people from Boone travel to Grayson

We climb Coopers and New River Gorge any month of the year. June can and will be hot but plenty of people will be out climbing.

The rock at coopers is super sharp and gritty so friction won’t be an issue. Plenty of shade at coopers also.

NRG and Summerville lake are also both good to go. There is DWS at Summerville Lake.

If you are into trad Seneca Rocks is legit, the fin runs north to south so you can climb in the shade easily.

Would I need to plan camping ahead of time at any of these or can I just arrive to find camping sites?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
