So seriously, when I was growing up people still used words like Dago, Wop, Guinea, and Greaser to describe my heritage. It never bothered me because I somehow understood that people who used terms that were meant to be derogatory, must be themselves uneducated, inexperienced, unloved and unloving, and generally to be pitied.

that's because you were raised in a era, where common sense was a lil more.... "common"

NO Marc I'm saying that we all don't have to be so HURT, when someone is ignorant and you know it. I was taught "its being the bigger person, or more mature, grown up, ...more educated" , whatever you want to call it. Pretty much exactly what Phylp said. Self confidence in who you are.

biner is a big improvement over anything that came out of 1930’s germany.

So yes it was effing unbelievable what happened, but the silver lining is I got to know many people (Franks, Grabows, Furmans, Shapiros, Schankowitz, Smeltzer, Lashkowicz) that I would have never met otherwise. My first kiss was Ms. Schankowitz

Is this really a argument? We gonna change a country's name too bc it is one letter away from being offensive?

Ya.
When they stop calling crackers - "crackers"...they refer to white bread as "non wheat" bread...and they start calling pizza with white sauce - "pizza" then I will stop using words that offend others. Everyone is just so damn sensitive now. Almost been in a few fights when someone who is more tan than I am calls me a "cracka" and I call them a (not typing it on the forum) back. Sorry. You started it. I am just playing by your rules.
I am also going to start an "us-too" movement.
After all of this - I might be able to be run for president haha

Be mindful that many people may not even know there is a homophone to "beaner" (while, for example, "cracker" is a commonly known homonym/homophone to "cracker").
I try to use "biner" when I am only around people who know that I am referring to a "carabiner" but opt to say "carabiner" when others may be in earshot.
If someone I was climbing with didn't like the usage of "biner", I'd use "carabiner" or the more-specific "locker/nonlocker", because it's such a small thing to do to accommodate someone.

First world problem!
A couple years ago I was on a ledge with a young partner when, sick on meds, I barfed over the edge.
He said, "I've never been on a ledge with somebody vomiting before."
I said, "I guess you never roped up with a brit."
I wasn't going to tell him about the krabs,..
