last year Black diamond had an April fools joke about a heated chalk bag that turned out to actually be real. I wonder what people are scheming up this year.

Sick of your partner complaining about your shabby anchor?

Solution - Bolt hangers with double sided sticky tape on the back.  Add 1 or 2 to every anchor and shazam!  No more complaints as your partner is wowed by 2 manky pieces of gear equalized to 2 "bolts."

April Fools Day - least favorite mark on the calendar.

Either the joke is so stupid, or you do something that legit scares the crap out of me and I try and kill you in response.

Did a route on the Flatirons where, out of sight of my partner, I pulled up slack and clipped it to my harness.
Untied and passed the rope end through a large hole I could almost climb through.

Tied back in, dropped the slack and proceeded up and belayed around a corner.

I brought up my partner and peeked around the corner in time to see him trying to fit through the hole.

Not for April fool's, but a quality joke:
Climbing a 5.8 multi-pitch with two others. Belayed up the second and have the 3rd on-belay. The 3rd yells up to us " did you guys see that welded nut? I got it loose! " I chat with the 2nd and both decide we definitely didn't see any nuts on route... A few minutes later the 3rd peaks his head out below our ledge and says "you guys really didn't see those nuts!?" As he mantles up we quickly notice the nuts he's been talking about aren't the metallic kind. He took off his pants at the last belay and climbed the pitch half naked. Being the courteous gentleman we are, we promptly removed our own pants and climbed the rest of the route naked.

One that always comes to mind was an MP thread from years ago. The OP said he had just made the first dry tool ascent of the Naked Edge. Naturally, people got their pitchfork and torches out before anyone realized what the date was. It was absolutely hilarious.

Was recently climbing in Moab and came across a particular shiny fixed .75, probably only been stuck for a month or so. Being over a little bulge in the wall, I had the privacy to place the racking biner from my .75 as well as an extended quickdraw onto this piece (placed my personal .75 in my summit pack to futher create confusion). Climbed to the top of the pitch and then put my follower (a sport climber by nature) on belay. He climbs up to the fixed cam, and after a few minutes trying to get the piece out, I just tell him "just keep climbing, you can buy me another later." he begrudginly hauled himself up the wall until he met me at the belay, where I was smiling holding my own shiny piece.

I used to live in NZ and the editor of the local climbing magazine published a photo of him climbing one of NZ’s few “splitter” cracks (rambandit, at castle hill)  with a bunch of photoshopped bolts.  People were VERY upset for quite a while...

A good one for today would be to go up to someone at the crag and say “I just pepper sprayed your dog”

I'm still waiting for BD to release the ATC-3, a tri-slotted tube-style rap device for those extra-long triple rope rappels.

Other great jokes are to stick plastic fingers in bolt hangers, rubber snakes in huecos, BBD's on branches that climbers get lowered onto, and of course you can always scream "DUDE, KEEP YOUR BRAKE HAND ON" at a belayer right when a climber is cruxing.
