Just kiss them on the mouth. More than words

“How was it?  It looked really hard for you.”

If they did a good job- "Nice work up there!"
If they looked like they were struggling - " That was a little interesting up there huh??"
If they cant do a move or get stuck, ill just start spraying beta, until they get it or give up.
Always want to encourage your partner! Not good making your partner feel bad, or otherwise making them any more frustrated. They wont climb with you much after that...
I typically climb with people slightly under my grade, so I always try and give some constructive feedback on technique or gear if I see them having trouble.

Pretty much anything except, "why couldn't you do it?"  Had someone say that once.. really pissed me off actually..

I go with a one two punch of: "What happened up there, buddy?..."
Followed by: "Awww.. Did the mean rock hurt your poor fingies?!?"

Oh my god, Bill. I can't even count how many times I've said that to my partner.

I think the issue is no one is speaking a language he understands. Maybe something like this? (Sorry it's not monospaced...)

///////////////////////////////////////
op = Climber(stoke: 10, experience: nil);
partner = Climber(stoke: 4, experience: nil);

thisClimb = Route(climber: partner, belayer: op, device: belayDevices.grigriPlus, gym: true);
thisClimb.climb();

if(thisClimb.isDone) {
  if(climb.sent == false) {
    partner.excuseRoutine(); // excuses go here
  };
  op.postClimbRoutine(partner.stoke); // this is where you store responses according to your partners stoke level after they're back down. The climb() function often modifies this value for both parties.
  climb.pullRope(alertOthers: false); // see other thread on yelling rope
};
/////////////////////////////////////////////

Note that this is an example and you should really consider adding functions to shout words of encouragement loudly while your partner is on the wall doing the Elvis leg.

That was a tremendous amount of effort!  Super dorktastic, but funny, A+!

After a send or a fail, the best response is always,
"How long have you been climbing?"(said somewhat energetically) ...wait for response and regardless of the answer, reply, "Wow, I really thought you'd be much better by now."(somewhat disappointed tone)

Man, how sad is this new generation? Guy starts what might be the best thread this year, literally MP gold, doesn't get the ball cupping he hopes for,  so he quits not just the thread but the site and prolly climbing.

I prefer the always acceptable and understated, "what happened" for a fall.

At least he notified us via `sys.exit()`
