Anyone have an idea of how to do this mod?

To keep it from falling at a belay station? If you're belaying isn't it attached with a 'biner, I hope? If you've got it racked, isn't it attached to a gear loop with a 'biner? Not trying to kill your idea but it seems unnecessary to me, rather, I don't see where it would be necessary.

You have to take it off the biner to feed the rope into the device. I could see this being useful on a bigwall.

I'll bet the OP means a keeper-loop so that it can be clipped to something while the rope is inserted / removed from the device. For use on multipitch terrain, especially walls, this seems like a very prudent precaution to take.

Soloists also add a loop to keep the device in the optimal orientation for catching rope solo falls. In both cases, the way I've seen it done is by drilling a small hole in the non-structural, plastic portion of the body of the device.

Cheers,

Derek

Ok, duly noted. I didn't know the 'biner had to come off to feed the rope through.

Yeah, a photo of the solo mod on the G2 would be great!

Never tried it on the new model, but I assume it's similar?

If you don't want to drill, just girth hitch a smaller cord to one side of the biner hole and you should be fine.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice, and the link to supertopo was really instructive. Looking at my Grigri 2, I'm certain I could do the same modification. After speaking with a friend of mine who has climbed with a moded grigri for years; he convinced me to just tie a loop around the biner hole like divnamite suggests.

I know this is an old thread but I really appreciate it. Works great.

then why would you comment on a forum about modifying something youve never even used?

this is why raising old threads from the dead is never a good idea.
