Shelf Rd/Canon City Needs Your Help!

Canon City, CO has made it to the top 6 finalists for Small Business Revolution and they need our help! Small Business Revolution is a show that gives small businesses in one rural town the opportunity to receive grants for improvements and $500,000 in revitalization. There are some amazing the local businesses in Canon City that are always so welcoming to the climbing community (Teek, Bean Pedaler, Pizza Madness, Brews and Bikes) and are the driving force behind this nomination.

P.S. Please don't think that voting will cause the climbing in Shelf to change in a negative way. This revitalization will help keep local businesses on main street open and not succumb to the drive-thrus and chains that already clog US-50.

Thanks for sharing this! I was just climbing in Shelf last weekend, and we stayed in a rental house in Cañon City, and it was wonderful. Didn't really get a chance to explore the town, but hopefully will at some point (and the liquor store was super friendly, haha)!

Canon is a great little town, please ignore the prison system nearby. I’ve been doing a little business in Canon for about 2 years now and the local people are composed of polite, hard working rural folks who will go out of their way to help you. Pizza Madness is great as well as bunk house burgers on the east side of town. Consider staying for more than the climbing- there’s a growing network of MTB trails both on the way to Shelf and south of downtown, easy access to fly fishing, skyline drive, and the royal gorge. 

The Bean Peddler is a good little coffee shop and owned by a climber!
