Sedans/hatchbacks on Black Mountain Road

I'm thinking about downsizing my car but I don't want to be screwed when Black season comes around this spring. I'm looking into a Prius or Honda Fit and I've seen them up at Boulder Basin but I've also heard mixed things about their suitability for the road. Can anyone who's been to Black in a car like this share your experience?

I know a guy with a Honda Fit that takes it up there a lot, i made with a CRV but had to take my time. One day i hope to buy a real offroader (jeep renegade trailhawk!).

No issue at all with a small car. No need at all to get a suv or 4wd

@Gaby do you have a smaller car? If so what car, and how frequently and for how long have you been taking it up there?

I have a 2004 Honda Civic, it doesn’t get much smaller or lower to the ground. I drive up there every year several times a year and have no issue, but I also know how to drive, I know where my tires are at on the road. They grade the road once sometimes twice a year and in between grading the road will get rough enough in at least two different spots to have beach ball sized pot holes in the road. If you dive head first through them with your car you can easily bottom out and potentially rip up an oil pan, they are also big enough to get stuck in if you stopped in them.

BUT, you can definitely drive around them or through them with minimal scraping and without damaging anything even when the road is at its roughest.

I have been there 6 times in the last 6 months, each time with one of those first price rental cars. And I did not have a single issue

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
