Lol Charlie.  Despite purposefully misleading jibber jabber to the contrary, Wyoming is not full in the least.  Unless you are counting Teton County and Lander as all of Wyoming.  Then yes, it’s full.

Now if you don’t want to be a welfare rancher or miner, it gets a bit more crowded.

Yeah, but we’re always on here talking about SLC.  I’d say it’s not full as long as you don’t daily drive a lifted pickup truck with 3” offsets.

RKM-You don’t have an ignorant or myopic speck in your body! Don’t waste time worrying about anti LDS bigotry. If people don’t want to associate with Mormons, or are unwilling to deal with minor cross cultural differences, then let them stay away from Utah. And everywhere else.

My family is Mormon, I know and love many LDS people. I did not want to generalize across the population, just hoping to relate a few of the experiences I have had.

Most western ranchers and farmers are heavily subsidized.

Such a tolerant and accepting group of people here.

I agree with Caz Drach.  Leave us to suffer.  I don't know how we do it.

To the OP: you want an honest assessment?  Don't ask on here.  The SLC/Utah threads always turn into Utah/Mormon/Right wingnut bashing.

People willing/wanting to share their experience may be on the extreme end of whatever spectrum you're asking about. I certainly am on the extreme end of the spectrum here.
Utah is a fabulous place to live if you are an adult and not connected to the Mormon culture.
I still would not raise my kids here.
Hope everyone's extreme offensive bigoted answers help with your decision

Why? We’re considering moving to SLC in the next couple of months with a two year old.

Just a personal preference. After being here for over a year my girlfriend and I have both come to realize this is not the place for US to raise a family.(It very well could be a great place for you and your family) I can't really put my finger on one just one thing. This place is going to be insane in the next 5 to 10 years and way to large for me.

SLC is a great place to save money and get out of some college debt. And the with the unreal access to the mountains it makes a wonderful place to be at the moment.

I lived there for 27 years and finally had to bail. Everyone tells themselves the bad air quality isn't an issue but it is. Inversions in the winter and ozone in the summer. It's funny listening to people say "just drive up the canyon and get above it", LOL. The only way to escape it is to contribute to it, because public transit there really isn't a viable option. It's a great place in so many ways. Big enough as a city to offer a lot but still feels small and comfortable. Great access to lots of outdoor opportunities. It's a great place to spend some time, but there's no future there. Utah leaders are surely wrecking all the good that is left. It is a myth that there's nowhere else as good for climbing. It's what people tell themselves in order to justify sticking around when everything is going bad around them. Northern New Mexico is working really well for me.

We've been  in SLC for 19 yrs having moved from central CT. We love it and currently don't have any plans to move on. We will likely retire here.
The one thing I didn't realize was that moving here constitutes a graduate level crash course in comparative religion. Being completely non-religious with a strong dose of disdain for the vast majority of religions (I believe all religions should be taxed, both for fair market value of any land and buildings as well as income taxes), the religious debates can get tiresome. Particularly from the Mormon bashers.

I agree with all you said.

Another big thing to think about. The population opposing the strong conservative government is growing, but Utahs leadership currently seems to be very much about selling off as much public land/natural resource as they are able to get away with

Very true!
