Wet dirt = wet rock. Sandstone is pourous and the surface may dry quickly, but the rock stays weaker and wet just underneath for longer.

Worth repeating over and over. That’s why I suggest checking the ground out at a place like Calico Basin where you can tell within 3 minutes out of the car if you should climb or not.

Plenty of limestone around...

Dont believe that 5’ John- it snowed decent today (Working around the FS visitor center in Mammoth). Word from folks working the hill this AM was about a foot but currently open terrain is pretty limited.  There will be snow- but dont fall for the makerting hype of some of the total precip thrown out there in this storm.

Looks like 20" increase in snow depth at the Virginia Lakes snotel (~9400ft) since the storm started so it's not completely unreasonable to think 3-4' is possible through the end of the storm Saturday. Especially higher up the mountain.

On radar it looks like it rained a bit yesterday/Saturday in Red Rock.  Anyone confirm?  Radar echoes are not 100% accurate, sometimes the precip evaporates before hitting the ground.

Definitely got some decent sprinkles at my place just west of the park around 10-11pm.

Question for the locals who've been climbing there for a while.  Do you know of any specific climbs that have been altered because of broken holds due to climbing in the rain and how frequently it happens?  It just seems like lots of visitors there disregard the rain rule, so I'm curious to know how often it happens.

My room mate said he saw at least 30 people bouldering, and lots of people out sport climbing in the kraft mountain area. This is just sad and disappoints me.

Did keyhole canyon Sunday to let it dry.. cool spot if other out of town visitors get rained out in the future. Mt Charleston on sat was also fun.

Looks like a similar situation for this weekend now.  Plenty of rain Thursday and now Friday AM to spoil the rock for the weekend.

this is one of those weekends to be glad you have other outdoor interests than rock climbing....

if temps were a bit warmer, lime kiln would be a great option...

Is Kraft likely a no go on Sunday?  How about Monday?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
