We were the last party out last night and hiked a bag out. I assume it's Jim and Sarah's, but lemme know if it belongs to you.

Nope, that was me being a space cadet. It has a bright green rain jacket and a camelback in it, right?

Please drop it at site 26 at the campground. I hate to be the asshole who doesn’t thank you when you were trying to be helpful, but in the future it’d be less of a pain to just leave things where you found them-I hiked back up there this morning to retrieve it

All kidding aside, I’d burn that bag by the side of the road after that reply.

Allow me to paraphrase: I left my stuff out like a slob, went back and found it missing but now that it’s miraculously turned up I’d like to vent a little bit because somebody didn’t mind read my bizarre intentions and now I got some unnecessary cardio that, as you can probably guess, a complete lazy ass like me doesn’t want.

I also disagree with the sentiment. Thanks for everyone who stuck up for the action, but I'm willing to hear other opinions. So I would like to hear from someone else who thinks it was wrong as the last party to hike it out in the dark and post last night in the lost and found forum immediately. I'm willing to change my behavior if 1 or 2 dozen people chime in agreeing with the person who left the bag.

R props...
I think you should have hiked the bag back up to the base... after posting... it was really very inconsiderate. People are dicks these days. Confuses people needlessly to contradict the norm.

So this may not be the best idea to chime in again, but I believe there is a fundamental difference in forgotten kit and booty. Booty is surrendered gear due to laziness, incompetence, and lack of skill. Stuck gear, dropped gear, bail gear. If something is left behind by accident, pure human error, something anyone could do, I feel it should be returned. IE, besides single draws and bail biners, there is rarely booty at a sport crag. A rope or stick clip at the base is forgotten, not booty.
In all cases however, I do not think the person who made the mistake should be the one giving out lessons, so still waiting for anyone else to take the other side to convince me to change my thinking.

If I were the OP ( and I read yr resposne) I’d have tossed your shit or straight jacked it... and yr right, yr an asshole...

Rprops, you did the nicest and most appropriate thing you could have done. Many people who leave things at crags , subsequently go a couple of days or even leave town before they realize their gear is missing.

Super ungrateful but not surprising at all when most people don’t have what I considered common decency to spend the 20 seconds to reply to a message or a text , even when in many cases they’re the ones posting in the forum asking for a partner in the first place.
