Testing the waters to see interest level. Indian Creek is great and the camping is indeed part of the experience. I've loved this style many years, as I'm sure many of you have. Sometimes however, the loud group in the site next to yours, the grit in your morning meal (not to mention your nooks and crannies), and the looooong nights become things to endure, not enjoy.
I have a furnished basement apartment, 2 bed 1 bath, with kitchen and everything you need in Monticello, 20 minutes from the Supercrack parking lot.
Am I the only one who appreciates a warm bed, kitchen, and a shower after a day of crack climbing? What's it worth to you to stay at my place this Creeksgiving?

Are you trying to find buds to hang out with you at your pad while making the daily drive into/out of the Creek? Or are you trying to figure out how much you can get someone to bid up on your VRBO/Airbnb idea for the holiday? I honestly can't tell.

I'm all set with friends and plans, I'm in another house across town. Also, don't mean to start a bidding war either, just looking for insight. I have a full time tenant in this basement rental except for this November. As such, I don't have it listed as a permanent VRBO and have no plans to. What I'm trying to figure out is if it's worth it for me to offer up this rental space for the week of Thanksgiving, in an attempt to take a tiny bit of pressure off of an area that is being loved to death (at least at this time of the year). We're all aware of the impacts we have in high use areas and during heavy traffic times. Thinking I may be able to help a small amount. If it's worth my time, cleaning expenses, etc. I'd consider it. Just feeling it out here. I honestly don't know what it's worth to someone or if anyone even cares, which is what I'm seeking. I thought it may be helpful to offer this up to the right group. To be completely specific:
Would you like to stay in a house in Monticello rather than camp at the creek, or is "the scene" a meaningful part of it to you?
What seems like a fair price?

Really? The "scene" is what climbing is all about! Campfires...starry nights ( watching the falling stars)... hitting the pipe... up early to watch one of the most incredible sunrises on this earth... the "alpine glow" on Bridger Jacks at sunrise...dirt in all my crannies is a bonus.... Dont know your age... but if these things are to "endure".... hmmmm. Im 58 and love it... Plenty of quiet campsites if you seek.... Really? Mr do-gooder by taking pressure off the creek by having some dirt baggers hang in a basement... lol...
just sayin...
cheers....

EXACTLY the kind of pressure I'm hoping to reduce. The increasing frequency of this tactic has and will continue to draw negative attention. If this is your strategy, you're part of the problem.

Yes, really. Some of us do really care, even in the face of insults. Are you truly questioning my motives or do you just jump at the chance to flex your keyboard muscles?

I'll give you one black totem and a warm 3.2 beer for a week of staying and nothing more.
Camping is half of the experience IMO. There, I flexed some keyboard muscles.
Woooooot.

20 minutes away eh?
Does that come with a full cavity search from one of Monticello's finest?

It's 18 miles from the driveway to the SC parking lot. Obviously, this was a bad idea. Nothing but insults, questioning my motives, challenging the driving time, and snarky comments. MP never fails to disappoint.
Funny thing is, I got the answer I was looking for anyway. No, it's not worth it to offer this up to anyone on MP. Happy climbing!

Honestly, if Indian Creek wasn’t such a shit show the week of thanksgiving, and if Monticello was a bit closer, this would be attractive.
But I don’t need to risk going to the shitter right after the dude who hotboxes it first thing in the morning (happened thanksgiving 2014), nor do I want to camp immediately adjacent to the guy dumping his oil in the sand while changing the oil from his POS van (2015). I stopped going after that.
If you enjoy the thanksgiving “scene” as it exists today, you and I have wildly different expectations from the desert.

Txclimber,
That’s mproj. I got a Gunks place that super nice and actually cheaper than some of the local campgrounds and I’ve had problems with folks on this site. Like you, I’m climbed only help the community and basically charge just enough to not be taken advantage of. Love the company and the folks when they come but MP gets a bit negative :/

I don't get why hostility is being directed toward the OP. Not interested in a rental? Fine, but why lambaste him for asking? Did he do something wrong?

Same thoughts here. And I think a room or house for climbing at the Creek to deal with those long, cold late autumn desert nights is ideal. "Missing out" on the camping scene? Feh. Been there done that long ago. It's not all it's pumped up to be. Hell, I'd stay at the Awahnee if I could afford it on a Yosemite trip.
