Do you mean the screwgate? I have one that is prone to sticking. My partner can usually get it open, he has stronger fingers than me.

I’ve had this problem with one of mine as well.   Almost new if it’s weighted at a belay it’s extremely difficult to open.   Bummer...I don’t like worrying about only screwing it part way etc.   So short answer is retire it (idk if Petzl will do anything worth checking but I doubt it)

Same here if you're referring to the screwgate. It almost feels frozen, irritating AF.

Yep. They do that. Mine loosened up after a month or so.

Had this issue with a newer Spirit screwgate a couple months ago; had to leave it at the anchor.

So there used to be a problem with lockers that I felt like hasn’t been a problem in a long time. I thought the manufacturers had sorted it out, but maybe not.

Basically, when the biner is weighted the tumbler that locks it can turn a fraction more than when it was unweighted. When the biner becomes unweighted it cranks down on, and seizes, the locking mechanism. You can try girth hitching a sling to it, standing in the sling, and unlocking it while it’s weighted.

BITD, they used to recommend locking a biner and then unlocking it a 1/4 turn to prevent this particular scenario, but I haven’t heard that in a long time.
Hopefully that helps.

I did have one seize in the unscrewed position but I put some gun oil on it and haven't had a problem since.

Attaches are notorious for locking up. We used them in a gym I worked at and they were constantly getting stuck.

I don't have any of the new ones, but I have tons of the round stock Attaché. Never had a problem. I keep them clean and lubed with Metolius cam lube. I also occasionally put them in an ultrasonic cleaner that dislodges all of the grit in the threads. But if they do get stuck, weight them, and the collar should loosen right up.

Throw some cam lube on it.

Powdered graphite works well for that and might attract less grit than a wax-based lube.

I had an orange attached get stuck/sticky in the closed position. Was closed unweighted and attempted to open it while also unweighted. Wasn’t cranking down on it at all.

Seems like a design flaw. Maybe thread pitch should be changed.

I have a bunch of BD biners and just use those instead. Not as flashy, but they work.

FWIW, I have a lot of the yellow & orange I-beam biners and various editions of the round stock ones.   Never had a problem.

Petzls screw gates are complete trash with a well known penchant for locking up.  I have had to cut myself out of an anchor due to them locking up.  It is too bad as I love their design, sans the freezing up issue.     If you want lockers with nice gates and quality machining go with dmm.    I honestly just use BD at this point as they are cheap, functional and easy to replace anywhere in the country.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
