Birdsboro, PA Quarry: creek crossings are down

2 creek crossings required to access the quarry, both slack lines. One was replaced a while back when the top line was too lose. Telephone pole was installed to take pressure off the tree.

Recent flooding caused everything to fall down. We did not wade the creek to see the second crossing, but talked with hikers we saw crossing back. Water was above their knees.

Attachment of first slackline is bolted to the ground near the parking lot, super secure. Why not bolt both sides instead of tying to trees/poles that don’t hold? Hasn’t it flooded worse here before?

Use the Old 82 parking area on the south side.

Or better yet, buy a plane ticket.

Or wade across the creeks...it’s not bad at all.

We were wearing pants and had a full sized backpack (gear and rope).

Is there a shallower crossing than the cable location? Has anyone considered creating a crossing from the end of the road to the road on the other side?

Walk downstream 100’.  It’s so shallow, my 5 and 8year old sons can cross.

The second crossing can be mitigated by walking up stream a few hundred feet.

There are two other places you can park which would not require a creek crossing. More of a hike, thought. The closest one is on the other side of the destroyed Hay Creek Rd.

Just to be clear, somone from the coalition said the cables will likely be replaced at the next climb and clean, and meanwhile they request that the creeks not be waded.

That’s the official party line, anyway. Just thought I’d share :-)

The south end parking area is an easy, flat walk in and an even easier (and quite nice) bike ride if you feel like bringing one. Park along the road before the big gate, might want to turn around first so your car faces out in case it fills up. Coordinates: 40.2391722,-75.8298552

There’s an interactive map here too if needed:
