Affordable Rent near Climbing Areas?

Salt Lake City sucks, climbing is trash and it's way to expensive. Definitely don't go there.

Dammit!  Forgot to add SLC to my list! :-(

Any water sports. I've never been skiing or snowboarding, but I could do that abroad if I wanted to.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time visiting my family in Arkansas, and I've been doing better handling the heat and humanity lately.

Am I understanding this correctly- you work 3 days every two weeks?

If that's the case, perhaps switching jobs would help solve the rent problem...

After 7.5 years of living in Colorado I've been priced out of housing in the Denver area, so I'm looking for affordable rent near climbing gyms/climbing areas.

Qualifications include:
  • Cat-friendly, apartments/houses available to rent for under $750/month.
  • An airport within 45 minutes (I'll be flying out every other weekend).
  • Reliable, high speed internet available in the area.
  • A climbing gym within 30 minutes drive.
  • Sport climbing areas within an hour drive.
  • Other outdoor activities nearby.
Any water sports.

Cody.

Rents for single apartments under $750
Airport, 5 minutes, free parking, 2-3x dailys to DEN.
Fiber internet everywhere in town.
Gym is limited to a small bouldering gym.
Sport climbing/Bouldering within 5 minutes of town. Several hundred routes. Tensleep 1.5 hours away, Lander under 3. Freakishly long seasons (10 months of reliable outdoor rock).
Tons of water sports and mountain biking in town. Ice climbing is ok here as well.

But is it cat friendly?

I'm sure it's harder to find a place with a cat than without, but the average rent for a small place is generally well under the $750 mark.

COD -> Den departing on a Thursday and a Monday return. These are the outbound flights:

Return flights:

Contrasting with SLC. Note the options, durations, and cost:

Shall we make a grocery list for her, too?

A food cost analysis would be helpful.

Very helpful, actually. Trying to find up to date COLA numbers on the internet means trying to wade through blog spam without losing your mind.

Why not?

Let's also find a list of cat sitters.

Op- Where do you stand on diversity, LGBQ rights, and other progressive issues? Just trying to think all this thru with you.

Oh, but I work at the airport for flight benefits to travel climb everywhere.

My point was that, in your original post, you said you were getting priced out of Denver. You then said you work 81 days a year. The simplest solution would be to work a little bit more, rather than commuting by plane every two weeks to your job...

There are a few direct flights there that don't seem to be overcrowded. Also, there are outdoorsy things.

Ok, but still it isn’t really a Mecca for climbing or anything for that matter (ok maybe fishing and rafting). Check out Bozeman or Missoula, prices are rising there but compared to Denver they aren’t thaaaat bad. The only drawback is it is expensive to fly out of Bozeman, but it isn’t that far from Billings or great falls to warrant driving there before flying

Great falls just felt like a really random addition to the list having lived in Montana lol

After living in Denver for five years I moved to Las Vegas six months ago and love it. You have far more climbing days in the year than Colorado and a vibrant city to make a living in. Plus Red Rock is magical - about the best climbing arena in North America (second perhaps only to Yosemite, but that's debatable). It's obviously hot in the summer but it's hot in most places in the summer anyway, and Vegas has fewer bugs, less humidity, and no afternoon lightning storms to worry about. Mt. Charleston is only an hour away and has excellent alpine sport climbing. Zion, Joshua Tree, and the Sierras are only hours away for even more climbing diversity. Rent is far more affordable than Denver - even in the many nice neighborhoods near the mountains. And culture? I've met as many nice people here as anywhere.

I hear Vancouver and Hong Kong are cheap. Close to airports too!

Another vote for Tucson.

Tucson's airport isn't the most convenient to fly out of but PHX is pretty close (under two hours; even less if you buy a radar/lidar detector) in case you have to make a last minute flight.

I would return if I could.

Well, I found a room in Aurora, but I'll save this advice for next year.
Thanks, everyone.
