Can any locals comment on how bad it is? I was thinking of going to Patricia bowl or Pine Creek Canyon this weekend.

When I drove through Sunday, From Bishop to Lee Vining it was terrible. I drove back through yesterday and it was pretty clear the wind had blown it out. I think it depends of if and which way the wind is blowing..

Looks grim from the Mammoth Mt web cams and the air quality report from Crowley.

Current situation around Bishop is smoky in the mornings, generally clearing out in the afternoons.

Been in Mammoth since Monday. Monday was horrible in town  Tuesday was bad  in town and extensively along 395. Rock Creek was clear today, as was the Mammoth Lakes themselves. But Mammoth itself was very smoky.  the wind direction is supposed to change to north by Friday.

I believe that is in Benton.

climbed in tuolumne monday and tuesday, rock creek on wednesday, and pine creek yesterday.  rode benton crossing yesterday and this morning.  smoke was not a problem for any of these activities.  seems like it's nicer in the mornings and worse in the afternoons/evenings, but the last couple of days even that hasn't been bad.  worst of it is usually between mammoth and june lake junction.

since california seems to burn fervently each summer (and to a lesser extent all year long) and smoke on the eastside (and elsewhere) is a prevalent problem, i highly recommend checking out bluesky daily runs:

they're not infallible, but i've found their simulations to be fairly accurate and pretty dependable in terms of figuring out where/when to climb when smoke impacts the eastside.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
