I'd liken it to dealing with my wife - she'll say something so far removed from reality or fact, or irrelevant, etc - and I'm so stubborn that I can't help but respond in a futile attempt to correct it.  I don't win that exchange - ever.  

Same goes for you, I reckon, except she's good looking so there's that.
