I no longer have a problem with keeping many places secret or at least little known. But the bragging about those places and lording it over people is teenage shit.

You want it kept secret, then STFU about it.

Agreed with OP,   tho' karma should handle the issue in the long run.

If you've ever seen the epic surf movie "Jazz The Glass" you'd think this thread is even more hilarious.

One person’s cluster fuck is another’s sanctuary. Yeah that sounds like I’m taking myself too seriously, but I don’t care. Why do you climb? Nihilism bores me.

Methinks y’all doth protest too much. It’s really ok to have areas like boulderfields in the woods and hidden gully crags that don’t get tagged with a hundred ticks and vids and gps for every single hold - it’s ok to give a couple pics and a rough arrow and say “y’all have fun out there.” And yes, if it’s really not to be shared, don’t post it at all. Don’t worry though, it’s all 30 foot dirty choss out here anywayz.

Lol, somebody flagged my post.

The cluster fuck is getting to the supposed "great" crag with poor directions only to find it's a choss pile anyway. You can keep your secrets but if you are going to post something do it right with good directions, gps, pics, etc. To do otherwise is simply self-serving the ego.

If the locals only thing is just a joke then it is a joke that some people have put wayyyy to much time and effort into. I hope it is just a joke, I hope climbers aren’t lame enough and egotistical enough to try and actually use violence to keep their crags locals only, especially crags that aren’t even really a secret.

Real secret spots, or personal climbing spots are okay. No one is obligated to share their crag location with people not willing to put work into developing that crag. But you also have no right to keep out the people who do find your crag and start to work it as well. And if your spot is private spot or a secret then don’t brag about how cool a problem from that area is on MP.

This isn’t instagram this is Mountain Project.

If you put a problem on MP then you should provide enough info for other people to find your problem and test it. You don’t get to put a climb up, call yourself a real climber, a manly man, or a badass for completing the climb but then refuse to share the location so people can test your metal.

MP is supposed to be a community based project designed to help fellow climbers create and find new problems and routes. “Secret spots” or locals only spots don’t belong on MP. If you want to stroke your own ego, consider yourself better than climbers you’ve never met, tout your “manliness”, or sharecimbs with only a select group of individuals then get off a community based climbing site and go do that shit on Instagram, I hear that’s where all the really cool crushers hang out anyway.

Chris, you should track down the perpetrators and file injunctions inside their buttholes.  Lawyer the hell out of them!!!

I love traps! Thanks for letting me play. Love map puzzles. Now I think I'll zoom back to CO and actually go climbing.

Don't stop there, do the other ones.  I definitely didn't want anyone to put the GPS cords.  That was the LAST thing I wanted in reality.

Woodson is locals only because no one who is not an SD local would actually want to climb there. Its like calling the wholefoods dumpster an underground restaurant to make eating out of it sound cooler to your friends.

30. Bad provincial comparisons

I swear Woodson is nature's parody crag.

It would be really funny if these goofs thought no one could just locate these boulders on Google.

The funny thing about any crag is that you can put a lot of effort into developing it, but if you found something marginal no one is going to go there anyway. Hyping it up by calling it secret might be the way to circumvent a lack of public giving a shit.

Hey Chris what routes are you trying to find? I can send you some private beta if you can prove your local credentials. I would tell you the criteria but that information is locals only.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
