Bouldering is awesome, trad climbers are just jealous because they're weak and fall on V2. But in all seriousness I don't really get why people rag on bouldering. I don't like trad climbing or sport climbing and it's not because I'm bad at either, I just like the difficulty and short bursts of intensity that bouldering offers. I don't care if someone likes trad climbing or sport climbing; to each their own. It's all about fun anyways and at the end of the day we're all climbing on rocks, no matter how big they are... Don't be a purist. Just try to have fun and not ruin other people's fun.

as you get older you get smarter and realize that tendons only have so much life and a finite number of climbs in them. Also its not so easy to jump off of things with old knees. I save the tendons for real climbs.

i talk a lot of shit on bouldering/boulderers i dont do it cause i actually think bouldering is stupid. I do it because its kind of low hanging fruit...its easy to make fun of. stuff like the fact that your foot mightt touch the ground to ruin the send and how contrived a lot of the problems are (think grandma peabody, etc) its kind of funny to me. its easy too easy. I think boulderers bring it on themselves a little because they're the biggest "Bros " of the climbing world. I also always joke that bouldering is the crossfit of the climbing world. but Im also primarily a trad climber. we're pretentious, elitist, argue about whether a fixed piton is more "ethical" than a bolt, and get into childish bolt chopping wars in Joshua Tree and Yosemite. its all stupid. climbing is a pointless and irrational activity and we are all dumbness for doing it. just have fun with it. make fun of sport climbers for never topping out and using power drills. make fun of aid climbers for doing 5,000 pull ups to get to the top of el cap. who cares. to me its just kind of a fun "brotherly love" type thing.

Can you imagine a world where a person could enjoy bouldering, sport, and trad climbing? Each aspect helping the other in synthesis!

I am only thrusting up the greatly overhanging climbing rocks for great satisfaction of the flash, most likely shirtless and campusing, proud neck meat of considerable size, tone and definition displaying outwardly the repesentations of great inner strength and beauty for all to see. all your troll are belong to me.

Tom Hanson wrote: Why does one faction of climbers have to dis another? i.e: blunderers vs tried or spurt (translates to boulderers vs trad or sport)? I suggest we argue climbing vs wallyball, climbing vs spending hours on Farcebook, or climbing vs shopping. Sure, only climbers visit this site, but, for crying out loud, quit comparing apples to oranges and appreciate the fact that we all like to pull down. Big walls, big mountains, crags, boulders, ice, mixed, whatever. It is all good. One of the things I love about our sport is that it is easy to get burned out when you focus on one aspect of the sport time after time and then you can add some variety. When I get burned out on spurt clamming I can go blundering. When I get burned out on blundering I can go do some turd (trad if you must). Burned out on turd? Go climb on yo mamma. Petty infighting is for trolls, who need to get out more and take themselves less seriously.

Thank you. I haven’t been bouldering for long but I imagined if you love me being out there on the mountains with your hands and feet in the rock, harnessed or not, that that was part of the passion for either sport. I also imagine that both bouldering and climbing intertwine. If you really love one you should dabble in the other to improve your own game. I don’t understand battling which is better. Neither are better. They are one of the same. Thank you for your response. I just joined the community of bouldering/climbing and I’ve been blessed to meet some AMAZINGLY talented and friendly people! I hope this community is one that’s welcoming and not full of stuck up rock people. Regardless, I’m planning my first CLIMBING trip and I’m fucking stoked. Let’s all agree to disagree and support each other. Thank you for your response Tom.

So glad to see that this thread was brought back to life as there's definitely more than needs to be said about the topic that aren't covered in the 15 pages before this.
Also Candice, Protip: You can type your response in the same post as your quote. (As a brand new member, you'll be subject to posting limits so posting two posts everytime you want to quote something is going to limit your voice in these threads significantly.)

95% of trad climbers are grumpy old men who use trad as a way to feel superior when they lead that "real heady" 5.8 while 2 routes over some sport climber is sending a 5.12c as a warmup.
