I think its about the focus. Bouldering doesn't leave a lot of space for switching between being with the surroundings and seeing the next move. It is all about the moves, all the time. There's a oneness with the rock in front of you, but not a oneness with the big open spaces of the mountain and landscape. I'm not sure folks hate it, just find it limiting.

You guys have decided to spotlight one 14 yr old beanie wearing, shirtless boulderer and act as if that represents the entire demographic of bouldering. The fact is on any busy night at the gym that represents less than 2% of the people actually bouldering. Hell, even The Spot doesn’t even represent that imaginary description of bouldering. Carlo Traversi recently completed his own triple crown of climbing by doing Jade (V14), a 5.14 sport at 13,000-ft elevation and then the Diamond (5.11) in less than 24 hrs and had no trouble with those triggers on those little cammie things and he rarely sport climbs and doesn’t trad climb at all. I get it, you guys don’t like bouldering, but damn get off your pedestal about how trad climbing is so superior to the rest of the climbing world. Guess what no one cares that you desperately thugged your way up some lame offwidth at The Woo (because that place sucks), and no one cares that you pissed yourself on Snake Dyke in Yosemite last month. One small correction, Carlo has been trad climbing for years, it was discussed on episode 137 of the enormocast.

I'm not threatened by a woman who can climb better than I or is in better physical shape than myself. I met one, and she's the reason I started climbing in the first place. Your assumption is telling about your state of mind on this issue though. Best of luck with that.

Women average between 1 and 50 ng/dl of test vs men's 300-1100 ng/dl And Alex is still pretty damn feminine.

Wait, there's the problem right there.... at least round VT, I have never heard trad climbers talking about such things... our topics are pretty much just Bernie Sanders, pure grade A maple syrup, organic farming, hunting, telemark skiing. and yeah women and men.

Mike Lane wrote: The only thing at work here is that flaming on boulderers is just so damn easy. Low hanging fruit, fish in a barrel, sneaking into a Special Olympics event, name your metaphor. Boulderers are like the goofy kid sitting at the front of the bus, just helpless against the taunts of the cool kids in the back. Between the 420 and typically just being young, ya'll are just easy targets. Notice no one fucks with Bob Horan. He's not a punk. The exceptional athletes in this sport do both climbing and bouldering well. But when your only talent is limited to bouldering, we just don't take you seriously; get some proud redpoints in and then you earn your way out of the taunting. Also, the lack of getting anywhere; and despite all the power moves you still are done in about 2 minutes is just not enough of a thrill or challenge for the vertically inclined. lets just get one thing straight, there are no 'cool kids' in climbing.
