New Climbing Center in Yosemite Valley

Matt Lisenby wrote: I know, but it's misleading to those that don't. There are a lot of abuses to the Valley in the name of tourism, but let's keep it factual. |

If Sloan wanted some cred he'd get that shitty golf course removed and the meadows that used to be there restored. Instead, he will propose things like drilling a full pitch bolt ladder (with an illegal power drill) to make servicing the Alcove rope swing easier than climbing the original route to get up to the anchors. This is of course because (per report) he takes tourists up to the rope swing for money (illegally) and it would be more convenient for him. And this is just one example. |

Go train on the boulders like generations of climbers have done before now. You pay dues to climb in the valley. Sound like you just want a clientele base Erik. |

King Tut wrote: I try and be skeptical with just about anything anyone says, especially on the internet. Take away the internet and most of the haters would have never heard his name. There was another guy a few years back that was getting hated on in a similar way. One thing they both have in common was that they were both full time, out there almost every day, motivated climbers. It makes me think a bit of jealousy fuels the hate. |

T Roper wrote: BUWAHAHAHAHA....no dude, I think it is the other way around. Sloan has climbed for a long time in the Valley and despite doing lots of other people's routes has never added a single significant new route of note other than spraying bolts on other people's achievements with a bolt gun in a desperate attempt to make a name for himself (or make money). The people like me that have done FAs in the Valley want him to stop. |

"The people like me that have done FAs in the Valley want him to stop." Tut.... agree 100% But I reckon we b haters, No? |

ikr? Had a big gulp of Haterade with my morning coffee...:P |

I still want to know what these thousands of artifacts are. I saw a picture of one them in Barrett's Desert Towers book. It was an anvil from the 60s. Great stuff, I would love to see an anvil the next time I'm in Yosemite. |

King Tut wrote: How come nobody has dispatched Burchy to go fight him? |

T Roper wrote: Funny you mention that. Back on all those Erik Sloan call out threads on Supertopo, Burch may have tried defending Erik based on all those comments addressed to Burch. Of course the Soviet Socialist Republic of Supertopo embraces Stalin-esque bannings, where anyone banned has all their comments deleted. No way to verify what his actual stance was back then short of asking Burch what his opinions where. Steve Grossman wants Erik banned from the park and is probably your huckleberry for this task. |

T Roper wrote: By all reports (and after huffing appropriate amounts of glue) Burchy might do it just for fun. But that is not the answer...though it can be argued that internet shaming has no point either....BUT, being an author of a guide book (with a bizarre method of organizing the routes...) then the negative publicity may have some effect. |

T Roper wrote: Fighting isn't Grossman's style, he is very passive aggressive, see Wings of Steel controversy. If you are really suggesting that someone physically assault Erik Sloan over his activities on Federal land, then you've lost it. In Erik's case, the best thing to do is call him out when he is wrong, praise him when he is right, and get photographic evidence of him breaking NPS rules. |
