This feels weird. Just go walk around to the walls. You are probably surrounded by hundreds of climbers. Go make friends!

You had to troll me from San Francisco to tell me something that I know?

Yes. You had to troll us all from Tonsai Bay Resort looking for climbing partners on the MP forum?

As long as you're trolling MP instead of climbing ;), what's the situation with rooms/bungalows these days? Still easy to find a place by walking around, or should I try to nail something down in advance?

douche troll: Most people come to tonsai railay with partners or they hire guides. It's not yosemite valley. Also many people are climbing 5.12 / 7 whatever routes which is harder then a lot of people can tr. if you're talking 10a-10d routes, they have groups in line in winter. There's no bulletin board. The bars didn't seem to be full of climbers. rather then ask 20 people if I could use their top rope I hired a guide. However the guide companies are in a cartel that keeps the private guidining fees high. I found one that gave a discount. avoided basecamp tonsai after talking with the unfriendly german owner. Non douche troll- In the high season I didn't want to risk being shut out of a room or stuck with an expensive place like $700/nt dusit ravadee by not booking ahead. I only found one tonsai hotel that could be booked in advance with a credit card. Many of the railay places are expensive. A lot of Thailand hotels are decades behind the times in terms of instant online booking or acceptance of credit cards without a fee, or at all. its a long walk with luggage, or a short boat ride from tonsai to railay. If you do get shut out of a room you'll have to stay in neighboring ao nang or krabi town and ride the boat each day.

"Eat shit asshole" other San Diego, CA Had the pleasure of receiving this email from the OP. Classy fella!! I was giving legitimate advice. I've spent months on Tonsai (traveling alone) and never once had trouble finding partners. I hope you find people to climb with and you treat them more respectfully than you treat someone you don't know on the internet.

I was wondering if tonsai was anywhere near capacity? I'll be heading over tomorrow, and am slightly concerned with getting a place on arrival. Willing to stay in any place with walls, and not on top of a mosquito nest or septic. Not psyched on paying 1000+ baht, but it's been a while since my last visit.

1000 baht is on the lower end. I heard of cheaper places that may be below your standards. Luckily ao nang is very close.

Kris, you're welcome and I forgive you. It all depends on how hard one climbs. No doubt you lead 7s/13s.
